Colt color..pics

Well, I can't get him to stand still long enough to get a good photo. These "area" pics will have to suffice!

The pic of him asleep was the day he was born. His legs were a little darker than they are now. They got very dark grey/black, then turned light and more silver looking. Can't tell WHAT he wants to color out as!

The hind end pic, under front legs pic, and chest/front legs from front pic are all from yesterday or today. The two side view while standing pics are when he was a week old.

If anyone can decipher what he will color out as (blue roan or bay roan), I would appreciate the info so I can get him registered.

Thank you,

I thought I was responding to one person. I would have posted more information about my colt.

He is out of a liver chestnut dam who threw a blue roan filly by the same stallion, a blue roan, last year. This colt of mine is 2.5 months old. He is losing his newborn coat and coloring out as a blue roan, but I can't tell for sure and really would like some opinions as I would like to register him soon.

Thank you for any help.

That is my thought as well, except for the blue roan filly from the last breeding to the same stallion. I did not own the mare at that time so have no idea what that filly came out as and turned into. I am hoping for a blue roan, but obviously anything will be fine with me:-)

The only reason I doubt it somewhat though is there is no dorsal stripe at all. On my bay horses there is a dorsal stipe. This boy doesn't have one at all. But I am still leaning to a bay roan, which is fine with me. I have a yearling colt that is a same sire sibling and he is a beautiful red roan. These are rescues, my older colt and this new boys dam, I had no choice in stallion/colors/etc. I just want to get this one registered so he is under my name and registration, so I am pushing for color confirmation!

Bay horses can have dorsal stripes caused by countershading however, they defiantly don't have to have them.      He is AQHA?

I have always heard bays have the dorsal stripe.
I'm sorry if you have heard that in the past but it's wrong. Duns on the other hand do always have a dorsal.

I have had horses all of my life just about, and have always heard that! Funny how you think something for so long without researching it, just because other horse people have told you something. I seldom ever do that, but have thought that about a bay and dorsal stripe my whole life!

Anyway, I think my colt is going to be a color. That much is for sure. he is easier to identify the color on than my boy I lost a few months back...we called him our blue red roan line back dun flea bitten grey big gelding. He was gorgeous...and all those colors combined:-)
