flaxen theories

I heard a claim somewhere that flaxen might be related to homozygous agouti. :o The (supporting) claim was made that 90+% of haflingers are homozygous agouti. Is there any proof that would support that theory? I will say that I do know of some tested flaxen chestnuts that are, indeed AA. Anyone? :?
I have some ongoing research in flaxen...the flaxen horses I have were all coat color tested and there are AA's, Aa's, and aa's in the bunch (and I have about 100). So no, I would not subscribe to this theory.
Thank you. 8-) I will go on to assume that the claim that haflingers are 90+% AA is also not accurate.
It could be true but it just isnt the reason for their coloring :flower
True :? Who would (have) test(ed) it though? Why for Pete's sakes test for A in a breed that comes in chestnut. :o Unless you were trying to select for something, but if flaxen was not caused by (a link to) agouti, it seems unlikely that data actually exist? :?:

I am pretty sure that Supa's horse is Mushroom, but the whitish mane and tail on a Silver or a Mushroom are not caused by flaxen....or are they :laugh1

hellooooo ! here I am , funny you should say silver , a friend of mine suggested the same thing a couple of days ago , this colt's dam has always been a puzzle , (in fact I think shes been on here before ) she looks brown , it has been suggested that she could be smoky black , black dun ,fading black ... Ill go find a pic

supaspot60 Sun, 08/16/2009 - 19:08

this is the dam ....yes I know its small but if you want Ill take a new one tomorrow
Ive included a pic of that yearling as a foal

supaspot60 Sun, 08/16/2009 - 19:51

why do you think silver ?is it because of the pale lower legs

pic taken today

supaspot60 Mon, 08/17/2009 - 12:22

dam pic taken today and a pic of her 2nd foal by the same sire(shes only had two), for at least 3-4 generations all the dams family members seem to be reg as black or brown with a few flaxens thrown in (she goes back to a falabella called easter boy , anyone know what colour he is ?)

The dam does look... off. Maybe smokey black or smokey black silver (doubt she could be black silver alone)? Or maybe she's just faded. Her other foal looks simply black to me.

Easter Boy was Red and White, I am pretty sure.
The colt does look chestnut in those new pictures, but looks Mushroom in the first.

I really dont think hes mushroom , he is very red ,infact he is redder than the average chestnut :!:
