OK, I do not ordinarily do this but here are my two 2009 foals...been a rotten year, lost two...one to the bloody gypsies who tried to steal the horses and ran the broodmares ragged so Mouse aborted, and one to stupid bloody Song who always red bags and slipped one by me and had him on her own....well, he lived 12 hours. So I have Fancy (by Carlos o/o Pagan) and Rio (by Carlos o/o Princess) Fancy is the Red and White (Sabino/Splash/Tobiano) filly and Rio is the stubbornly Bay no white at all but very smart anyway, colt. I shall geld Rio in a couple of weeks. I have one more foal to come from a maiden, and possibly another form what I consider to be my best mare, Ecco, although she is SO fat it is not possible to be sure so she is in with Carlos to jog her memory :booty [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/rabbitsfizz/rio%20and%20fancy/gr…] [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/rabbitsfizz/rio%20and%20fancy/gr…] [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/rabbitsfizz/rio%20and%20fancy/gr…] [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/rabbitsfizz/rio%20and%20fancy/gr…] [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/rabbitsfizz/rio%20and%20fancy/gr…] [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/rabbitsfizz/rio%20and%20fancy/gr…] [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/rabbitsfizz/Palominos%20and%20Re…] Princess [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/rabbitsfizz/rio%20and%20fancy/gr…] Carlos [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/rabbitsfizz/rio%20and%20fancy/gr…] Pagan [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/rabbitsfizz/rio%20and%20fancy/gr…] and one of my new colt DC coz he was getting jealous!!! and who could forget the Great Gran Papa at 30?? So, Rabbit, is it just some sort of weird coincidence that here we are, with the world between us (literally! LOL), and we both have a Princess and a Rio??? Or is there some sort of family connection of which I am unaware??? :laugh1 :laugh1

Gorgeous foals - love that filly she has great expression.
Glad to see you finally shared some pics of your gorgeous horses. Hope the rest of your foaling goes safely.

rabbitsfizz Sat, 06/06/2009 - 11:59

I cannot pretend I took the pictures!!
A friend of mine took them and he has all the bells and whistles on his camera!
He got a lot of pictures of noses, though until he got wise to standing in one filed and taking pictures of the horses in the next one with a telephoto lens.
Diane that is weird, isn't it?? I just let my foals name themselves, though, and Fancy is "Fancy That" and Rio is "Rio Zorro"

So, what patterns would you call DC...sire is Bay base Snowcap Pintaloosa, Dam is chestnut (only reason I sold her, she is lovely!)

Believe it or not, that's pretty much how we do things as well...Casey is about the only one who got his name before his birth, and well, even that fits him (if you know of any Californian surfer-dude types named Casey! :laugh1 ).

At first blush, I would say that he's missed out on any of his sire's pinto genes. That white patch on his shoulder is very reminiscent of one on Newboy and one on Princess, altho' Princess's is a bit more in the shape of a Texas longhorn...that might or might not indicate 'roaning' (i.e., roaning out to spots/white). Princess has roaned, but it looks more like traditional roan in comparison to her brother, who has done the spots/white Lp roaning.

As far as I can see he has no Pinto white....and he looks very much as if he is going to varnish out, possibly even to Near Leopard as he has dark spots on the brown bits.....
At the moment he is an extended blanket, visually, he has lots of little faults, but I shall run him another year before deciding if I have a potential stallion or a very flashy driving gelding!
He has a very good head for a well marked tiny (27") colt, most of our Spotted Minis have heads like buckets, quite frankly!!

Let's hear it for Rabbits, diplomat extrordinaire.....

lipigirl Mon, 06/08/2009 - 07:06

I agree his face is very good and he is nice for such a small one, although I do find that minis have nicer appy heads generally than the bigger appy ponies and horses.

rabbitsfizz Mon, 06/08/2009 - 12:03

Yes, I would agree with that, some of the Spotted Ponies are just.....*searches for diplomatic word*...oh yes....Gross!!!!
In fact most of them are.
Speaking of which have you seen Piano Man??
One of the nicest appy Minis I have seen in a long time...and well patterned too, which is not always so with the AMHA horses...very smart indeed!!!

Ooh...looky, Diane, you can see the Blanket under the Leopard, just as I was saying!!!! :-bd

lipigirl Mon, 06/08/2009 - 12:17

Yes I know Piano man very well and it's a good job that he doesn't take after his sire is all I can say - he's stunning but....... can't say on here. Crittercreek have some lovely stallions Texas spotty is nice too.

lipigirl Mon, 06/08/2009 - 15:34

I suspect due to his age that he will stay that colour now....his Sire has kept his colouring - Alliance Sign on the Dotted Line.

He's very well refined for what I'm used to seeing as a mini (too much shetland in the minis here, I think). As for faults, well, he's a baby...I hate looking at babies for conformation, once they start growing, cuz they get soooo...well, ungainly (I'm being polite! :laugh1 ). Newboy is just now starting to look like his body might fit his head again, while Ebony has developed a real slope from bum to withers...

Morgan Mon, 06/08/2009 - 18:43

beautifull babies and really nice pictures of them!

Love Piano Man! I've allways said I'm going to get a leopard spotted mini one day, no chance any time in the forseeable future but I think that's going to be my pet when I'm an old lady

I'm sure some of you have noticed the lack of V pictures the past year or so :laugh1 She's just now getting back into a way that I can look at without :hammer

NZ Appaloosas Mon, 06/08/2009 - 18:48

You don't want to hear my current real complaints about Ebony...I'm seriously praying that she's just got a combo of winter woolies and near yearling growth crap going on.... :BH :hammer :laugh1

Diane

Sara Tue, 06/09/2009 - 01:46

Oh gawd, every winter I think everything I have bred is total crap and I should just stick to riding lessons and training. Then spring comes and they shed and I am dazzled by the pretty ponies. :D

Apparently I have a hard time keeping that picture in my mind through the dreary, Oregon winter.

Sara Tue, 06/09/2009 - 12:05

A high school friend of mine married an Irish man and they were living here for the first part of their marriage. Eventually he announced that if he was going to live someplace with weather exactly like Ireland he may as well be living IN Ireland so they moved over there. :)

supaspot60 Tue, 06/09/2009 - 17:55

yes I can confirm that he weather here in Ireland is CRAP we do not have a summer , I wear jumpers/sweaters all year round ( I do not jest) , everytime it rains its a torrent ,Lipi I lived in the UK for most of my life and complained about the weather - only now do I realise how good it was there

Sara Tue, 06/09/2009 - 18:45

Our only difference here, I think, is that we do have a summer. It is brief but very dry -- all the mud turns to dust for two or three months and we gag and choke on it, then the rains come back!

Morgan Tue, 06/09/2009 - 19:07

At least it's predictable. Oklahoma is rough just by the constant changes. I usually only get a cold once every two years or so. I've lived here 2 years and I've had 3 colds and the flu. :? :hammer
Florida was hot but at least you knew it. No sense checking the weather where I lived. highs in the 90s, humidity 100% 50% chance of rain and if it does rain in the summer it will be at 4 pm. :laugh1 And the hurricanes give you a nice little few days to get ready. And you do get to cool of a bit in Jan and Feb.
The storms here is more like being on a old time ship in the movies. "oh crap! batten down the hatches!". And they speak of 60-70 mph so matter of factly here...that's tropical storm force! :rofl May not last very long but enough to blow away anything not bolted down.

We keep threatening to move back to Hawaii, i just have to figure out if I can take the horses

Edit: case in point, There was no sign of this at all an hour ago: http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radbl…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And that's a small storm. the cloud apeared as I was feeding.

supaspot60 Wed, 06/10/2009 - 18:19

morgan you win ! you definately have it worse
