a few photos from today's show

I handed the camera to a sixteen year old student while I was coaching today and she got some nice ones! Here are a few highlights. K. on Tickle in the warm-up. [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v338/jmpnghorse/TickleKatieshow053109…] This pair did walk/trot flat classes and trot a pole. They got several ribbons including one first place in trot a pole. This was their first show together and Tickle's hunter pony debut. E. on Ginny in the ring. [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v338/jmpnghorse/GinnyEllashow053109.j…] This pair did all the same classes as the first one and also got some nice ribbons. I believe their highest placing was a second. L. on Ginny in the warm-up. [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v338/jmpnghorse/GinnyLilyshow053109.j…] This pair did beginning hunter rider U/S and the trip-a-course division. (1') The got three firsts, a third and a fifth. Doesn't she look serious? and finally, yeah, I showed a medium pony! [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v338/jmpnghorse/Texascantershow053109…] Oddly, Texas has just figured out how to jump and now the pony has springs! I didn't go any higher than 1' in this show because I just started working him again a week ago and did not want to stress him physically or mentally. I think he'll go to a horse trial in June and we'll jump higher (and mangle a dressage test) there. Andrea, you missed out! He'll probably go on the market for $6,000 to $7,000 or so after the horse trial. I had two other riders and will try to post some shots of them later. They were in the higher jumping divisions. also, there will be pro photos ready online by Tuesday and I can't wait to see what he got!

Heh, I forgot to say that Texas and I got two firsts and two seconds. :D Woo one-foot jumps!!

I got to school Splash yesterday because I paid for an hour in the arena for my horses and riders but Splash's rider couldn't make it at that time. I schooled her up at three feet so at least I got to play around with something a little higher. Since Isabelle's breeding career is over and I'm catching the show bug again I'll get her going again after Solo is weaned and show her.

Nice going, those kids look really smart....what sort of show was it??
There you go again with Isabelle...you really do need to get an obstetricians report, unless of course you have decided it is just too much hassle...I thought that too, but having Amira in foal those last two times saved her life, I am certain now...I have known of two horses who had colic surgery who colicked and died exactly one year after surgery, due to lesions.
Now, when it's a gelding of course, you have no option, and it was hard to look at Amira when I brought her home, and think of her living, let alone going back in foal, I had to have a rug on her just so no-one would call the Police!!!
But, as I said in the other thread, five months later she was back in the show ring!!

Thanks, it was a local hunter schooling show. I love that I have several of these shows in my area throughout the year so I can bring young and beginner riders without the stress and expense of hauling to a big show.

Rabbit, I'll make sure I ask the vet about what you describe.

:love Oh those girls. You 'raise' some good ones!
(did anyone ever do a study why little girls are into horses, but little boys seldom are -unless they are cowboys- ?)

With Texas I think it was a combination of getting some time off over the winter, being separated out from the other ponies at dinner time so he can have grain (he really does seem to require grain to maintain a condition that allows him to be athletic), and his free jumping session really seemed to click everything into place about how he needed to use his body.

I had intended to show Jasi and then she got a sore at the side of her mouth (the bit must have rubbed her -- she is a lot like Isabelle with her skin sensitivities) so I scratched her and entered Texas in her place. I was only going to do flat classes on him but when we went over there to school in their arena he seemed so springy and rocked back that I asked my working student to set some crossrails for us. He popped right over them and landed cantering like a little pro. You know how you can kind of feel where a pony's limit will be, even over small fences? He was so springy and happy I can see him easily going 2'6" to 3' when he is properly conditioned. As a medium he will only need to jump 2'6" so he's all set. I'll have him doing courses at that height later this summer and sell him as a green pony hunter prospect.

Sounds like a great day! Congrats! I'm sure the girls were estatic!
Yeah, I so want Texas, but I need to think of the ones I have first before adding another!
