a few of my big idiots (imgs)

Just thought I'd share a few pictures of some of my goofballs. They're from December and it was one of those days where it was the first turnout in a few days. Needless to say, they were a bit... spunky. The models are Cisco (buckskin WB stud colt) who'll be 2 in May and Missy (bay TB mare) who'll be 5 in May. How do you all think Cisco is turning out? I'll post a sequence of pictures of him. He is 1 year and 7 months old in the new pictures. He seems to be earning the right to hang onto the jewels a bit longer (since I believe that you really have to wait till they grow up to be 100% sure, altho' telling if they are gelding material seems to be a lot easier to figure out early )

He is turning out very nicely - and growing into those legs...
I suspect he will be a nice 17 hds and imo has a lot of potential in several disciplines. :love

Your TB mare Missy looks a lot like my grade 'exbucking horse' mare Samantha. But then I guess most dark bays with minimal white (tiny star) look alike.

TwinCreeksFarm Fri, 03/13/2009 - 15:09

Tell me about it! He looked like a spider when he was born.
Sire is 16.2 and dam is 16.1.

Thanks for the compliments :love , anybody have any critical remarks?

Sara Fri, 03/13/2009 - 15:31

huh, Diana's sire and dam are both about 16.1 too but your boy looks sooooo much taller. He always has. Wow!

I hesitate to say anything critical about a growing youngster. Separate him from Missy now that spring is on its way and we'll have another look at him in a year or so. :)

I tend to feel the same way, but so far I'm pretty happy with him. And of course! They were just turned out together because she dominates all in being a crazy ball of running, bucking fury, so I knew we would get some good shots off of those two.

TwinCreeksFarm Sun, 03/15/2009 - 17:28

I remember from awhile back we were analyzing Sara's pictures of Inigo and Mara. I think they were moving out big from behind but not so much from their front. Why is that? I was looking at a picture of Cisco from his inspections back in August and it is very much the same thing.
Warning, he's kind of ugly! http://www.alphinsphotography.com/A_%26…

I think what they decided was it was "just not a 'free shoulder'". Some horses just have the ability to move their shoulder better than others.

That's why I do it in stages...does he get to keep the jewels for the next 6 months or snippity-snip now? Figure to be as sure as possible, one really needs to have full maturity/growth to determine if a colt is really worth breeding on. Imperfections show up early/good qualities need constant reviewing.

I never did figure out why Inigo didn't move as big in front as he did behind. At first I thought he was tight through his shoulder but since he did a version of Spanish walk when he was wearing boots I decided he was plenty flexible!

Sara Sun, 03/15/2009 - 21:43

True, so maybe under saddle I could have gotten good front end movement out of him too. It would have taken spuuuuuuuuurs. He was so dull!

I have days now where I don't think about how he is gone. I rode out of the arena on Friday to cool Maggie out outside and was actually a little startled to come across his grave.

accphotography Sun, 03/15/2009 - 21:50

I think that's possible. My mom's little Yorkie used to wear a diaper when she was in heat (she's since been spayed due to pyometra). The first few minutes the diaper was on she would LITERALLY walk on her two front legs with her butt over her head. Funniest thing I ever saw in my life, and while she didn't look in pain, that was certainly not a way she would move under any other circumstances. LOL!

I do think that with spurs you could have gotten more out of him though. We've gone through that with Lace a bit. She's not dull, but she's very lazy.

That's great that you are moving on... for you. Such a terrible loss I know it must be hard.
