As you can see the follicle is very slightly colored. The light pigment darkens along the shaft and with some hairs quite dark.

So what I would like to know is if this clears anything up for you Daylene is on if brown is a dilution or a modifier??? Or are the pictures just interesting???
f the first one (50 cents) was a horse I would have to say it was a bay or darkish red dun... BUT... the follicle is slightly pigmented so that would usually indicate no dilution.
I think this follows what horsegen said in that brown is not a dilution.
Of course the pics are extremely interesting!
.....very interesting. I had a member of another forum I belong to "Decker terrier" read our dicussion on brown and she put it like this....chocolate is not lighter version of black it's the complete absence of black.
