Due to decreasing use over the years, I have decided to disable the forum functionality of the site.

Forums will still be available to view but new posts are no longer allowed.

Do you Like the forum Theme

I've decided to make a new poll for the forum. I have increased the text size and currently I'm working on the buttons. I would like to run the poll for a few days and see what the results are but if you really don't like the new theme, I've enabled the old theme and you can use that one on a personal basis. Go to "User Control Panel" and then "Board Preferences" and choose your theme as "Subsilver". The reason the board was running slow is that I had to remove the server cache so that the new theme would show. Once the cache rebuilds it should be as fast as the old one.

I'm...not sure..lol

finding things took a bit of time...but now that I'm finding them, it is a bit quicker.

I do like the color

But i like avatars to be on the left...(again, personal preference)

took me a minute to see how to upload attachments, but I found it....but if you keep this theme, you might want to sticky a How-To post on how to use it. Before the box to upload was just there, now you have to click on something to bring up a little section.

Change takes me a few days to get used to...so I'm sure I'll adjust eventually :D

vneerland Sat, 07/11/2009 - 10:49

I voted 'not sure'.
I would like it if (nag nag nag.....) the avatars moved back to the left so I can see who is about so speak before I read it  And maybe I am not finding the right button yet, but I miss my 'view posts since last visit' option that used to be available at every page. :sad It could now be called 'view new posts' but that option is still not available in every thread. I cannot hop but need to go back to the index before I can chose that option again. Other than that, I like it.

edit to add:
Banners still don't display, leaving a large gap at the top. :o

Sara Sat, 07/11/2009 - 11:57

Where is the button to go to the next or previous thread? Is it gone or am I just not seeing it?

I like the colors and the font but agree that avatars should be on the left.

Daylene Alford Sat, 07/11/2009 - 13:03

Ok ATM I'm extremely annoyed. I hate IE!!!!! Going back to old theme for the moment. I didn't test that everything displayed correctly in both IE and Firefox before I uploaded it.

accphotography Sat, 07/11/2009 - 14:24

I switched mine back and I fell at home again!! :laugh1 So you guys can keep the new theme as long as those of us who prefer the old one can continue to use it.

Jenks Sat, 07/11/2009 - 17:06

Gosh. I thought I hated change....but I like that it's different than the old site. Because it is different here. I didn't like that it was the same.

Daylene Alford Sat, 07/11/2009 - 21:59

It would really help if you guys would give me more feedback. What was it that you didn't like? I really would like the forum to match the rest of the site but I need to know what you like or don't like so that I can try and fix it.

I posted on the other thread, but ill post it again here so that its easier to see
I dont like how much everything blends together. The icon that shows which thread has new posts blends both into the back ground and into the icon for threads that have no new posts.

The font is too small, the icons and everything are on the left.

Its also taking FOREVER for it to load, which is unusual.

And superficially I just don't like the colors on the forum.
vneerland Sun, 07/12/2009 - 00:20

You don't need my reasons anymore, do you Daylene? :?
I described it in the other thread and again, here. (if not clear, let me know)
I like the match with the rest of the site, and my 'gripes' are small. But decreased navigation can be a big problem. :( (if you are in the sticks on dial up, and spending too much time waiting as it is)

rabbitsfizz Sun, 07/12/2009 - 03:55

OK.
I am coming out from under my blankie only long enough to tell you this...
1) I hate the colour
b ) I hate the avatar on the wrong side
iii) It is not nearly as clear and easy to navigate as the "old" one.

So, how do I get it to go back to the old way, please???

I'll be over there in the corner waiting, if I can't see it it does not exist!!!

NZ Appaloosas Sun, 07/12/2009 - 04:03

Go to User Control Panel. Click on Board Preferences. Scroll down to Board Style, and click on "subsilver2". Colour goes back to the blue scheme, and the avatars go back to the left. :bounce :bounce

I actually LOVE the color, but then again I always prefer warm colors to cool ones.

other than that, I agree that the avatars on the wrong side and the decreased navigation options are major issues.

Daylene Alford Sun, 07/12/2009 - 15:34

I'm found a site that let me take the old theme and redo the colors. It doesn't match as well as these do but it doesn't clash as bad as the blue does. Plus it didn't take me all day to change things. The problem is I'm having a bit of trouble with the header information rendering the same in IE and Firefox. If anyone here is a wiz with css please send me a email.

I was actually a bit disappointed that more of you didn't like the theme. I spent all day Friday getting all the colors changed and had to go mope for a bit. I'm over it now but probably won't spend as much time working on the next theme change :P

Daylene Alford Sun, 07/12/2009 - 19:23

Acc if you activate subsilver2green for your account and then view it in firefox and IE you'll see what It's doing. I've tried changing up the style components but it doesn't seem to help. The thing I'm really not understanding is if I put the exact same components in a separate file everything displays the same.

I haven't tried using a php include statement to just include the file that displays correctly. I'll probably try that tomorrow.

Sorry Vneerland. I had marked this one as default days ago and for some reason it didn't change. I didn't realize it until I accessed it from a different computer (I had the new one set for me). The only way I could get it to show up was to turn off the other themes. I do intend to redo this theme just haven't worked at it yet.

One of these days I'll get something working that everyone can at least live with :bounce

vneerland Tue, 07/14/2009 - 12:46

;) I just feel sorry for you. All the hard work wasted. I did like some things about the other style and would have loved it if some minor changes could have been implemented. I am on another list where 'gold' and 'silver' display with the same navigation, just in a different shade. I hope your next attempt will bless you with such a painless solution. Thanks for trying!

rabbitsfizz Tue, 07/14/2009 - 13:18

Sorry you felt down.
Did anyone actually actively askfor a change, though??
Maybe next time asking first would save work.??

You do not need to ask me, the answer will always be
"No, Dear GOD NO...do NOT change it I cannot cope...HELP!!!!"

OK, just so's you know :laugh1

accphotography Tue, 07/14/2009 - 14:28

And I forgot about this. Shame on me. I've got too many visitors in my house... I'm lost.

I'll look at this tonight if I can.

Andrea Tue, 07/14/2009 - 14:55

Awww.... Sorry all your work went to waste...
You will find 95% of people hate change... It may be boring, but it's what we're used to and things don't need to change to be better!
:booty (you'll also find 78% of all statistics are made up)

Daylene Alford Tue, 07/14/2009 - 18:10

That was why I changed the main pages first and asked about those before I did any changes on the forum. The main pages got a big thumbs up so I went ahead with the forum.

I WILL be making some more changes in the near future but it will be colors only. The basic forum will stay the same so as not to freak everyone out again :rofl
