Ok an explanation... Presents as a ultra pale palomino (looks cremello) with some hairs presenting as white from a pinto. Both follicle and tips are clear but the index (widths) of the medullas are different. The pics with the wide medulla are the white hair and the thinner medulla is dilute.

It's very interesting. Was the white from all three areas of his body? I know he has a snip and a star, so he has splash right?

Here is a pic of his perlino sire and his silver bay dam (I still wonder if she's actually a silver dapple). I'll add some full body shots later, wireless is playing up grrr. I'll post some new pics of Saxon soon too, after he's had a bath (no rain for a bit and we're on tank water).

He's definately not a grey. His sire is a buckskin and his dam a pally (they're quite old now). In his progeny details in that link, you can see he's thrown no grey foals either.

Thanks, sorry to ask but something about the shadows in that pic looks very grey, the new pic looks much more double dilute.

Yes the shadow on his (sire) eyes gives the impression of grey but this horse is very much a perlino, I had to look twice thinking I had my info wrong.... :D
Now the white hairs were only a small percentage maybe 5% and yes from all the samples-neck, rib and rump. Not sure whether it's significant (sabino hairs in the samples too or something????) or is it just I need to look at 100s more white verses dilute.......

Oh, that would be really cool if you can find white spots on a very light DD. :shock: I've allways wondered what the APHA does if you can't see the spots for certain. :?

That was my thought too! but I just hope that is the case...

I've never thought the stallion looked DD, and I still don't. :laugh1 I just don't know what I think he IS.

Okay well it was a good night last night. We had rain, yahhhh. So Saxon got a wash today. I don't have any tru blue to get his stains out and just had to use plain old detergent. So his tail is still a tad yellow, oops but he's got a fairly snow white mane again lol. Oh and he's got half a winter coat to lose, so he's a tad fluffy.

I don't take very good pics, I'm too slow to get the good shots (or the camera is. I think it's the combination lol). He moves really nicely and my pics don't do him justice.

That's why the hairs presented so light!!
I've seen a few very light pallys with the mottled skin.. anyone got any ideas?
