Re: Introducing... Phoenix's Sweet Psyren **Picture Heavy**
When do you typically halter train the foals?
You can start putting a halter on her right away to get her used to it but don't try to lead her or tie her yet since her body is still fragile and you could injure her neck. I use a little leather halter and put it on in the morning and take it off at night just to get them used to the handling.
also, is Silo an alpha mare? If so, the "manners" she will be instilling are those of an alpha! Rosalynn turned Diana into a Princess-Beast.
Re: Introducing... Phoenix's Sweet Psyren **Picture Heavy**
Yeah. Silo is the alpha. Ditto already acts like her poop don't stink! LOL.
She got her first outside adventure today. Boy does she love to run! Poor Silo is trying to catch her to "protect" her and Ditto is not having it! LOL. She goes from standing to full gallop in two steps and Silo nickers frantically chasing after her. She's just too cute! Tomorrow I'll put the halter on her. I'm already getting her used to touching her legs and butt. Foals are fun!
I'm also thinking she's got a partial blue eye, but it's hard to tell. Both eyes have the baby blue grey look.
Re: Introducing... Phoenix's Sweet Psyren **Picture Heavy**
I'm pretty sure she's bay. She doesn't have the reddish coat, but more brown. She's like a darker fawn color? Don't babies normally have grey/blue eyes?
I've got more pictures downloading. I don't get the impression of buckskin though. She's just not gold enough looking.

Re: Introducing... Phoenix's Sweet Psyren **Picture Heavy**
I dunno Andrea. *I* really do see alot of gold. She seems a bit dark, but I've seen darker buckskin babies than this and with the sooty in the family... I dunno. There are three shots (all in good sunlight) that *really* look gold to me.
No, honestly I haven't seen a foal with blue/gray eyes that wasn't a cream. I think I'd be pulling me some of those GORGEOUS tail hairs. Thanks for the tail shot btw. It's every bit as long and white as I thought it was and even more impressive to see in a good pic like that.
Love!!! :love :love :love :bounce :bounce :bounce
Re: Can I bore you with more pics of Ditto??? Pg 5
OK. I'm trying to show her color more. I've tried taking pictures of her eyes and you can't really see. In the sunlight they look grey. She does have a blue streak on the whiter side.
Her color is brown. She's not reddish at all. I've searched online at different foal coats and can't find any that are just brown. Either they are reddish and bay or yellowish and buckskin. So what's the deal???
Someone find me some pics of what brown foal coats shed out to be....
These pics show her color better. She does have goldish highlights on her hair, but I think she is still to brown to be buckskin. So I dunno! Maybe I'll post this in the "What color is my foal", but I'm pretty sure she is bay.

Re: Can I bore you with more pics of Ditto??? Pg 5
LOL. I'll be taking pictures daily...
Yeah. Wishful thinking on buckskin. I just want to know what type bay she would be... Frodo was red in his foal coat. Ditto is just brown... Do foal lighten or darken when they shed? When do they typically start shedding?
She is a sweetheart! My daughter and her were following each other around. It was so cute!
Today she didn't want to go back in the barn as all the other horses were neighing and making a racket. So I had to pick her up and put her in the stall! LOL. Won't be able to do that for long!
Re: Can I bore you with more pics of Ditto??? Pg 5
While she does seem dark for a buckskin, seeing her standing next to her mother who for all intents and purposes looks BLACK (on the neck) in that photo, I can't be convinced. To me the big thing is the eye color. They shouldn't be blue gray. As dark as mom is I'm willing to believe Ditto could be buckskin. I'm with you, she's not so much red or gold as brown. This could definitely be a "smokey brown" (cream on a brown based instead of bay, which usually isn't nearly as obvious).
:GTM
Re: Can I bore you with more pics of Ditto??? Pg 5
Gambol's eyes were a blue/grey when he was born, except for the actual blue that he does have was very light and sky colored.
In the worst case just test! ;) Just like in the , some of the simplest colors can mimic each other.
Re: Can I bore you with more pics of Ditto??? Pg 5
I'll wait til she sheds and we can guess again... I can't stand the thought of pulling little tail hairs :booty
If there's still a question after her foal coat sheds, I'll test her.
I was looking all over at different foal pics... Just haven't found brown coats :?
Re: Can I bore you with more pics of Ditto??? Pg 5
They run and run and eat and run and run!

Re: What does a baby Ditto do all day? Page 6
I just doesn't get any cuter than that. Nope. Nu uh.
I had a feeling she was going to be independent. The way she was already off exploring the dark recesses of her stall while mommy rested at about 2 hours old. :laugh1 This girl is going to be bold and smart. :love
Re: Introducing... Phoenix's Sweet Psyren **Picture Heavy**
Yes. Three out of four of mine have been eating by the first or second day. Inigo on the other hand would not touch hay until he was about two or three weeks old. We would put it in our own mouths and chew it up, and then put little bit in his mouth and he'd spit it out.
