Grade Quarter Horse filly

I know it's the wrong side, but the most recent shot of the other side isn't a good one for critique. [img]http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w65/accphotography/Lace/IMG_9664-2-1…] Be as brutal as you wish. Honest.

I was wondering if I could ask the people that do post if you would be willing to say your breed of interest. I mean if your an Arabain person, QH, Paint, Warmblood etc. I think it would be interesting to know how that colours your post.

Thanks. I hope to learn a great deal reading posts.

Conformation should be pretty much the same across breeds, but I can see how there might be some differences with regard to how the neck or tail is set on and what kind of face/head the horse has.

Sorry ACC, I don't trust myself enough to critique Lace. I can peg obvious flaws but I'm still learning about the more subtle ones. I just came across Tickle's inspection sheet from when she got her ASPR papers and it was really interesting to read how they critiqued my little halter champion. She's about as perfect as anything I have but of course every animal has room for improvement!

Jenks Wed, 04/08/2009 - 18:22

Yes, conformation is conformation. Breed is irrelevant. THOUGH, certain flaws are beneficial for certain disciplines. I'll be back. My DH has just returned from out of town and needs attention.

Jenks Wed, 04/08/2009 - 21:15

Briefly - I like her,she has substance. She does have a closed shoulder angle which will keep her from being a good jumper and having a large extension ;) . Her rear end looks good - I'm not great with them, but it looks darn good - good short cannons.

I am going to bed. I need to try to get better at this, but she is a pretty mare.

lipigirl Fri, 04/10/2009 - 16:43

Lace looks so much better than when you first got her - a credit to you. I am not going to critique her though.

I would like to say though that you can't always say that long cannons are a bad thing....Lipis have longer cannons and we all know how they can move.

Daylene Alford Fri, 04/10/2009 - 19:24

I'm not sure why I just find it a bit hard to critique Lace...Maybe because I've seen her so much? But anyway I'll give it a shot...

She is tied in below the knee. And as Jenks mentioned her shoulder is more closed than idea. Her neck also seems a bit thicker than I'd like to see but that may be because she is a bit plump and could improve with work.

She has a nice length of hip and nice rear legs. She is over all quite nice.

Daylene

accphotography Fri, 04/10/2009 - 19:33

Hmmm. I'm going to find another photo. You may be absolutely right about the tied in below the knee, but to be fair the white on this leg is shaped in such a way it could make a big difference IMO. I'll look for a good shot from the other side later.

Thank you!

accphotography Fri, 04/10/2009 - 21:10

Hey could someone post a photo of a horse that is NOT "tied in below the knee"? I'm still learning about that characteristic.

Jenks Sat, 04/11/2009 - 09:43

Look at Lacy's left front. It's straight. The tendon is parallel all the way up. I honestly think it's her white marking making the front right appear tied in.

accphotography Sat, 04/11/2009 - 11:46

It wouldn't be the first time white markings have screwed things up, and that's certainly a marking capable of doing it. Such an odd marking I think. I wonder what caused it.

supaspot60 Sat, 04/11/2009 - 19:14

Im sorry but Im going to dissagree with some of whats been said , I dont think the problem of her neck is because its too thick - I just think it lacks a little bit of length , her shoulder isnt that bad either you can see from the avatatar that she has decent extention! she does have a good length of hip but I think her hind legs are her worst thing about her ( too far under neath her and didnt you say somewhere that shes slightly sickle ?) I would prefer a slightly higher tail set , she has good length of forearm and nice short cannons , overall a very nice mare

Jenks Sun, 04/12/2009 - 07:39

So she is going to do dressage? lol

Just because her shoulder is more closed than ideal is not a huge issue. There are no perfect horses. I don't think there's anything wrong with her neck. It's 1/3 the length of her body.

lillith Mon, 05/18/2009 - 05:04

According to my biomech lecturer the shoulder angle does effect extension but the length of humerus also has a strong effect. A laid back shoulder with a long hunerus will have greatest extension, an upright one with a long humerus will have reasonable extension often with a flashy toe flick, a laid back shoulder and short humerus will be dissapointing as it will look like it can move better than it is and an unpright shoulder and short humerus will have the classic fugly pony style sewing machine action or a knees up look.

Lacy may be a little upright in the shoulder, Im not too good at judging that but her humerus looks to be a good length to me.

I like her quarters, they look balanced to me, however i think she is a little upright if anything in the hock and stifle, not too good at that though. Perhaps a little short in the neck but not too heavy.

I like the mare.

lipigirl Mon, 05/18/2009 - 05:25

Funnily enough my comment on Lacy now would be that she is awfully short coupled for a mare and this will not help her if you do want to breed from her. She does look good in those photos ACC.

Do you mean for her carrying a foal or what she will pass on to the foal?

Growing up where I did, it was ingrained into me that short coupled is HIGHLY desirable. It's been very difficult for me to get away from that thought.

accphotography Mon, 05/18/2009 - 15:31

I do, but a Frodo baby wouldn't do me any good except to sell it. I'm not even sure I could as it would be a TANK. The GG baby would be my "english baby". Mine and mine alone!!! *muah ha ha ha*

I have to admit I love these two stallions though:

and
http://www.welshponies.com/eestud.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Of course Khartoon Khlassic will always be on my list. I think showing Half Arabian might be loads of fun. I don't really have a need for multiple horses to show at once though so if she goes to GG, she probably won't go to KK, at least for a while.

Sara Mon, 05/18/2009 - 15:39

I would not let a GG baby go either!

Eyarth Eragon... he's in my state and I had not heard about him yet! That's what I get for backing away from the Welsh world. I'm sure it was all over the Welsh group when she imported him. Nice!

I like Eurotrash too. (I assume that's where your link goes. I didn't click that one.) If I ever buy a Section B, Gayfield's will be my first stop.

lipigirl Mon, 05/18/2009 - 16:47

Short coupled is good in a male horse but being a little too short coupled in a mare 'may' make carrying a foal less easy for her - not impossible but just not as easy - this is what I was taught. My mare is a little too long coupled (making her back weaker) so am currently looking for a very short coupled stallion to compensate JMHO.

Yes it did fall through. The whole deal fell through in fact so Donna is back to square one. I did hear she sold Nightlight (the '08 smokey black filly) though to her rider Jill something. Sounds like that was a great deal for everyone involved. I know she's still got several mares for sale, including Faux Finish. I'm not sure if she plans to sell Puchi Trap or not (I think so). She's still on the fence about selling Pearlescent as she'd really like a full sibling to this year's perlino filly (who was sold in utero). Remember My Name is for sale, by his owner, as well.

Sara Tue, 05/19/2009 - 15:44

I would KILL to have Puchi Trap in my barn. I suppose it's a case of "if you have to ask, you can't afford her" though. :((

Hmm, if GG is still around I might ponder another breeding to him...

accphotography Tue, 05/19/2009 - 15:47

Yup, he's going to be here "indefinitely" last I heard. :bounce :bounce :bounce Of course that's kind of sad for me as I no longer have the excuse of "I have to breed in '10 because he's leaving". Now it can be delayed... forever.

You know, I don't have any idea how much Puchi Trap is, but I've been pleasantly surprised by some of the other mare's prices... so maybe...

TwinCreeksFarm Tue, 05/19/2009 - 17:09

I want a smokey black sabino filly out of Puchi and GG, though I was glad when I saw Nightlight was sold! I feel we can afford another horse (what's one more, right? ;) ) but boy oh boy we do not have the room!
