Looking for someone doing research on Rabicano.....
Hello, I am looking for someone doing research on the Rabicano trait.... I have been told by several people that is a 'random' occurance but I am wandering if it is.... I am new to this all but I breed Paints, have a sabino/rabicano 2009 colt...he is going to be heavily Rabicano yet has sabino characterisitcs also. His dam has moderate Rabicano markings and her sire is Tribute To Sierra- whom has thrown several with Rabicano traits. His dams' dam also has Rabicano traits and is 100% AQHA..... Thanks and look forward to hearing the information. I have an aquiantance looking to publish an aritcle on the trait and was looking to see if there is an 'expert' in the field. Thanks

It not a random trait , I dont think there is spific data on it , but all you need to do is look at familys of horses that produce it consistanly like Smart Little Lena or Smart CHic Olena(off the top of my head), if you observe pictures of their offspring it is common to see it produced by them. Maybe someone else will have a few other familys to add or some research that may have been done that Im not aware of. Welcome too BTW , love to see pics of the little guy.

OK yes it is definently in families...Tribute To Sierra being one.... I have also seen a few by Obssesed to Impress and Awesome Andy....Skippa Heathen was also a very very expressed Rabicano himself.......My boy, "He Is One Bad Hombre" is by Barlnk Macho Too (Splash/Sabino) and out of Ladys Obvious Tribute (Sabino).....

Here are some pictures of him at about 5 weeks old. He is over 2 months now and will be getting current photos as the older he gets the more Rabicano he gets, he will be very very expressed....he has quarter sized molted belly white, flecks coming up between his front legs and back legs and very very heavy in his barrel. The last picture is of his dam, her dam (AQHA mare by Traditionalist) has Rabicano traits, though small, she has the white tail hairs and 'roaning' throughout her flanks.....

Not to brag but I think I have something special here- I love him at least, and yes he is offered for sale! :love
Thanks!
Thea

I don't know of anyone currently doing research on rabicano. UC Davis was looking at it many years ago, but it's hard to get families of horses large enough to do statistically significant genetic research. Since then, I haven't heard of anyone looking at it.

Maybe just a typo but Barlink Macho Too is Splash and sabino( likely) but not Frame(OLW)

He is looking really nice , congrats on a nice colt.

His mom looks Splash and rabicano and sabino( likely)

Yes sorry typo! He is splash/sabino!

So no leading research on this trait???? Anyone know of any specific lines in APHA that seem to carry is more, i.e. Tribute To Sierra.

there is a lot of rabicano in some lines in the Paso Fino but whether or not it's there without sabino is debatable - I think the stallion is Coral Lace.

There is some in arabs also... Love the detached sock on his front left too! What do they call that? A leg warmer? ;)

One of the Quarter Horses

One of the Quarter Horses that is a known rabicano is Go Man Go. He was registered as a roan, but truthfully was a rabicano. My buckskin AQHA stallion, Daltons Top Hustler, has Go Man Go in his pedigree multiple times fairly up close and he just produced a chestnut rabicano filly in 2014 from my black solid colored Paint mare, Solid Black Dice.
