Lp Affect on Black

Since I'm too lazy to go looking for where we were talking about the affect Lp can have on black, I'm just going to start a new thread. Here are photos of one of our bay mares, who does not have "black' points. Hopefully this will help explain why I see bay where others see sooty chestnut. LOL This mare tested out to EeAa. Bay ear--outside [img]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h116/NZAppaloosas/8034497929_0.jpg[/i…] Bay ear--inside [img]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h116/NZAppaloosas/8034498569_0.jpg[/i…] Bay leg shots [img]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h116/NZAppaloosas/8034499209_0.jpg[/i…] [img]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h116/NZAppaloosas/8034500873_0.jpg[/i…] [img]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h116/NZAppaloosas/8034503817_0.jpg[/i…] [img]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h116/NZAppaloosas/8034513673_0.jpg[/i…] As you can see, the outside ear is the only thing that looks black, and to my eye, it actually looks old charcoal greyish black. So it is very hard to rule out (or in) extension when dealing with appaloosas. Diane

Actually we have a Knabstrupper fewspot filly who is the color of your horse. The filly is Ee aa, so she is REALLY black but I will be darned if looking at her she appears that way. We actually tested her to make sure as she really did look charcoal.

Misty (the ear and legs above) was so dark that she was registered as black. It was a great surprise when she came back with test results of bay...one of the reasons why I get leery of people saying they have an XYZ coloured app . Our senior stallion is the other reason (registered bay, tested black). Lp just causes funkiness to base coat colours.

And forget trying to describe coat patterns...what pattern do you call a mare that was solid at birth, snowflaked out, got preggers, snowflaked to the point of looking buckskin from a distance (about 20 or so feet), and then went back to "solid" after foaling?

:rofl an appy :rofl

Seriously though the color thing is a bit of a pain as we purchased a mare said to be black that tested bay :hammer Perfectly fine if your program isn't to produce blacks.

At least you got black-based! :laugh1 I'm terrified I'm going to get Ebony tested and find out she's eeaa!

Yeah we did get lucky, I was a bit freaked out when I first saw the filly as she was imported and "supposed" to be black. The colt being a fewspot seemed black, but the filly REALLY looked bay to me. That would have been a VERY expensive error if she had been bay :BH
