2009 Foals

Forums

So who has 2009 foals that are on the way or already here? I know Sara has one due. Who had the mare bred to the gorgeous appaloosa stallion?
I'm confused... Gypsy is bay??? What am I missing... She looks chesnut...
Any chance sire is grey? He doesn't seem black black... Maybe it's sabino?
I dunno.
Foal will be black filly, born at 351 days.
gaited horses are very sabino and can make a Bay look chestnut.

Andrea Mon, 03/16/2009 - 10:53

Does anyone have examples of a chestnut looking bay that's been tested? Love to see one!

critterkeeper Mon, 03/16/2009 - 11:59

I too wonder about dad - I do know he is NOT bay and therefore is atleast Ee/aa. I'd say sabino possibly with ticking (not roan). I don't think she is bay, but is a chestnut (if she tests bay, then I go with a bay sabino colt born Oct. 5).

My vote is for a chestnut sabino colt born Oct. 5...

Morgan Mon, 03/16/2009 - 12:10

She looks bay to me :|

and the baby will be........nearly white sabino with an unidentifiable base coat :angel teehee

Sara Mon, 03/16/2009 - 12:28

Steffie, if the stallion is black he can not carry agouti but your mare might (if she is chestnut) or does (if she is bay).

accphotography Mon, 03/16/2009 - 16:37

Yup. I'd place a little wager. Both mares are bay. *nods*

Sara Mon, 03/16/2009 - 16:44

You mean both mine and Steffie's? I'm pretty sure you're right about mine being bay. Especially now after I've seen some photos of other black based horses with LP.

Sara Mon, 03/16/2009 - 16:48

I'll get everything together to have her tested as soon as things settle down a bit here -- probably after Isabelle's foal is born.

I have one mare due very soon. She is the only one I bred for this year and at this point I am thinking it will be hard to pry this kid out of my greedy little hands:-) Here is mama gold champagne (homozygous for champagne)
Jocitas Bit O Honey (AKA The Beached Whale)

Oh hey, good to see you! Your mare is due when mine is, I think. You, Angela, and I will all be posting foal brags very soon! I already know mine will be the most boring color.

accphotography Wed, 03/18/2009 - 19:55

Hmph. I can see a visual difference in that mare... maybe homozygotes *are* more apparent.

So far they seem to be lighter in skin coat and little to no freckles (some ambers look gold). Honey Jo is considered on the "dark side" for homozygous gold. Many look like freckless gold creams or even cremellos with champagne eyes. My theory is HoJo is a homozygous gold on a liver chestnut base as her Grand Dam is a DARK liver chestnut and her Sire has thrown a liver chestnut;-)

Are you getting all antsy I know I am. Honey is getting a bit of an udder and her tummy has really dropped. She is still so sweet and lovable so has not gotten too grouchy yet.

I actually had to really look to decide if she was a gold cream or not. I wouldn't have questioned you at all if you said she was.

People have called her my cremello, my albino, if they understand champagne she is my gold cream;-)

accphotography Wed, 03/18/2009 - 22:08

I actually did have to look to make sure she wasn't a DD (hadn't read your comment yet). Something about that wasn't quite right so I settled on gold cream. :laugh1

champagneqh Thu, 03/19/2009 - 12:59

Here are three AQHA horses registered with the ICHR that have been color tested homozygous for champagne.

1. Jocitas Bit O Honey -gold champagne

2. Champagne De Oros -gold champagne she is Honey Jo's fill sister and is one year older then Honey Jo

3. Skippin the Bars amber champagne

I will post a couple of TWH horses that have been tested homozygous also none of the horses I post tested positive for cream.

champagneqh Thu, 03/19/2009 - 13:18

Here are 3 TWH that tested positive. They are all three golds:-) I also have a picture of a classic cream that is homozygous but did not use him as I was letting you compare homozygous with no other dilutions to heterozygous:-)

Brook's Sunny Sue

Dancer's Mystique

Champagne Cloud DancerIf you want I can go back and see what Fox Trotters have tested homozygous as I think one of them might have been a classic but so far golds seem to be trying to corner the market on being homozygous;-)

Yes, I'm antsy! The mare has been a total grump through the whole thing and I'm ready to be done with it! Her tummy looked lower this morning when I fed but she doesn't really have an udder yet. If I feel it, it has a little more tone to it than usual but is not filling with anything yet.

Honey Jo has a little bit of udder but being a maiden I am not sure she will get much before she foals. Today she just wanted me to groom her and scratch her buns she is a bit spoiled but it is so easy as she is so good natured. She got pretty big and her body changes almost daily now. I go out and check on her often through out the night but I know she will most likely be a sneaky girl about foaling. one day I want to set up a video monitor in the foaling pens=)

Andrea Sat, 03/21/2009 - 10:24

So Silo's bag is getting big, but no fluid in it. Its just super fleshy...

lipigirl Wed, 03/25/2009 - 09:51

I have no idea if Cherish is in foal this year, as she lost the last one whilst I was in hospital...I didn't get to see if she came into season again and was covered...in any case, Applause will be gelded soon so he'd better get a move on if he wants a baby on the ground...will keep an eye on her and maybe check her mid summer.

For Newbies this is Cherish and she ha kept me guessing for a foal since summer 07 !!!!!!!!!!! She was scanned in foal in Aumtumn 07 and then lost it last summer.

This is sire 28" AMHA stallion Applause - he is Silver Black Sabino, Tobiano and grey (is also known as Silver White)

I am also looking for a stud for my Paso Fino mare for next summer so is going to be fun looking around this year for one...seen a very nice grey !! ;)

lipigirl Thu, 03/26/2009 - 04:35

Hi Diane, he just takes him job SO seriously that he does not relax a lot of the time, he would be so much calmer if he were gelded, I am actually looking in to AI for him before he is gelded.

Grullablue Thu, 03/26/2009 - 14:34

We lost our stallion, Rawhide Whiz, so are hoping for some grullo foals by him and maybe even a champagne from our mare, Shesa Champagne Cody. We also have a grullo roan stallion, so can get fun colors from him.

A friend of mine has her mare here (bred to Rawhide Whiz) that is due to foal in a week or two. In the past, she's been very consistent at foaling within 2 days of 335, so we're hoping for April 4-6. Then we have 4 due shortly after that, and more in May/June.

Their web page is at http://www.grullablue.com/foals/foals09…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; if anyone wants to peek at the pairings.
