2009 Foals

Forums

So who has 2009 foals that are on the way or already here? I know Sara has one due. Who had the mare bred to the gorgeous appaloosa stallion?

accphotography Thu, 03/12/2009 - 22:43

I was kinda pushed into it by GG leaving the country next year. I had pretty much decided I wanted one by him eventually, but I might not have gotten around to it or at least might have gone to someone else first. I've seen too much, learned too much, etc. I've got to go to him while I can.

vneerland Thu, 03/12/2009 - 22:47

Will you be able to register the foal with anything? :? Since Lacy is not papered?

Sara Thu, 03/12/2009 - 22:48

Good plan. I was almost tempted to book to him again quickly but I really don't need any more horses. However, if anyone would like a little full brother or sister to Diana... *prod prod*... you know Rosalynn is up for lease. ;)

There is a performance horse registry (half-TB) but it will not matter because show hunters don't need papers. Diana isn't registered either and neither was Inigo.

accphotography Thu, 03/12/2009 - 22:53

Most likely not. But the foal's not going anywhere. It's being specifically bred to be my hunter and/or eventer. If we get her papers (still working on it, and supposedly she is AQHA and/or possibly APHA) the foal would likely be registrable AQHA and/or APHA. Given GG's popularity/ability and the number of people that adore Lacy, it wouldn't ever be wanting for a home I'm certain.

Sara Thu, 03/12/2009 - 22:59

people who do breed shows get very confused over the open USEF shows not requiring registration papers. :) A while ago on FHOTD someone was saying that a TB could not be evented without its papers which is totally false! They were accustomed to showing a breed (I don't recall which one) and just assumed eventing was the same.

accphotography Thu, 03/12/2009 - 23:01

I've had that very discussion twice in the last week.

GG was ranked 10th in USEF hunter breeding a couple years ago too. Not bad for a "colored racehorse". :rofl

Sara Thu, 03/12/2009 - 23:07

When I was in junior high my trainer had a champion pony jumper who was actually a range-caught mustang mare. I love the performance disciplines. :-bd

Sara Thu, 03/12/2009 - 23:08

Oh! And my most recent trainer has a pony hunter mare who qualifies to go back east to the pony hunter finals almost every year. she's been told she could sell the pony back there for $50,000-$100,000. no papers.

Sara Thu, 03/12/2009 - 23:32

have you browsed at bigeq.com? That's not an unusual price for a pony hunter. Now you know why I balk when people talk about selling horses for under $1,000! Our "cheap" horses are $4,000-$8,000.

accphotography Thu, 03/12/2009 - 23:34

Yup I've seen, but it still shocks me. This foal will have even more of a future if I can get Lacy to a few shows this year. *crosses fingers*

Sara Thu, 03/12/2009 - 23:36

Do you show hunters yourself? If I lived closer I'd offer to ride. I'd love a chance to sit on her!

accphotography Thu, 03/12/2009 - 23:57

Not yet I don't. :rofl I plan to though. She'll be showing on the line and in halter at first, then I will probably ride her in some WP and trail, meanwhile training some in hunters and hopefully show (and probably do lousy) eventually. I will definitely have someone ride her for me at some point. I SOOOO wish you were closer!

No offense, and certainly not implying that it is not true, but I have been offered huge amounts of money for some of my animals. But between the one(s) saying they will pay so and so much and actually getting it? :? Not always the same thing.
Anyway. I understand the idea of breeding an animal for yourself. The only real value of papers would be the venues that you can otherwise not enter, breeding plans, or the burden of proof, that your animal is who you say it is. (and even that is not at all fool proof with papers, but that's a different subject)

Andrea your horses are gorgeous , will you be keeping the foal ?
It's going to be a keeper. Love a filly or a colt... Would really like a buckskin, but doesn't really matter as long as it's cute! How could it not be!

Andrea Fri, 03/13/2009 - 10:28
A splash buckskin to a splash bay and they both look like that!? *droooooooooooooool* I am SOOOOOOO excited about this one!!!
I don't believe Silo is splash. Sabino yes, but not splash.
Ari, to my knowledge hasn't thrown a splash baby. I think he's just wild sabino. Same with Silo's dam.
Sara... What do you think?

Sara Fri, 03/13/2009 - 11:17

Andrea, I had only thought of him being sabino (this is Wharley Magic Flute for those who don't know) but I just had another look at his foal page and there are some VERY splashy blazes on there.

Have a look especially at Eos Magic Dorando and Eos Limerick.

Your Silo could certainly be splash and it's just hiding in her sabino. Remember how minimal splash can be! (i.e. Vimpenny Sweet Sultan!)

accphotography Fri, 03/13/2009 - 14:33

I didn't even blow up the pic or look up her family and she *SCREAMED* splash at me.

critterkeeper Fri, 03/13/2009 - 18:03

I thought splash right off the bat too (4 even whites does that for me ;) ).

I am also finding that people who started out in/stayed only with breed showing and breeding do not seem to comprehend why pedigree is not at the top of my list for stallion requirements, be it for our own herd or for sales prospects. (where's that shruggy smiley I saw on another post????) For me, conformation will always be the number one consideration--not there, not interested, don't care if Pegasus is the sire, and if the dam has Mr Ed's talking ability (speaking of which, he sounds horrid speaking in Maori!!!!!!!!!!!).

Anyone dare to take a guess on Gypsy's foal color and due date??? She was pasture bred the last two weeks in Oct. and first week in Nov. so I don't know the exact date. I know he mounted her the first week in Nov. but don't know if anything was accomplished or he was just trying. lol.

Now, we are back to the million dollar question! Is she a RED (Chestnut/Sorrel) Sabino or is she a BAY Sabino...????

The sire is Black (roan & sabino ?) or just sabino???

Foal will be _______________ color????

When will it arrive??? (it is her first foal)

Who ever guesses the closest to be correct will get some silver jewelry for winning!!!!

Hugs, Steffie

It's not a million dollar question, it's a $25 question. ;) If you test yours, I'll test mine!

steffiegilbert Mon, 03/16/2009 - 01:47

You know there are ALWAYS one or two in every bunch! lol.

steffiegilbert Mon, 03/16/2009 - 02:24

Oh, he is black for sure. Just not sure if he is Roan and Sabino or just sabino?
I also don't know if he carries the aguouti or not.

I wonder if I will get REALLY loud sabino markings?????

Andrea Mon, 03/16/2009 - 09:44

I'm confused... Gypsy is bay??? What am I missing... She looks chesnut...
Any chance sire is grey? He doesn't seem black black... Maybe it's sabino?
I dunno.
Foal will be black filly, born at 351 days.
