I have a new horse!!!!

I just got a new 2 year old purebred Arabian gelding (HE IS NOT THE EPM HORSE) but won't pick him up for a couple of more days. We were supposed to go today but it has rained SO much and when Eddie went out to hook up the trailer the hitch had come off the block and washed down the driveway. So the pole was deep in mud.. Uhhhh... Never fails... He is a GORGEOUS rose grey but will be pretty light grey with a darker mane and tail like his sire. He is straight Egyptian bred and is so calm for being both an arabian and his age. Morgan will be showing him in halter/showmanship until he is old enough to start under saddle. His sire is: FIRDAUSI and his dam is DESERT SUEZ. Here is the flyer for his sire's 2003 breeding fee and info. http://www.ak-stalliondirectory.com/a-listingsF/Firdausi.html Here are pics of his sire (grey), dam (chestnut) and one head shot of my new boy. I need to get some pics of him this week. I need a name too. I don't like his barn name because it is the same as an ex-boyfriend of mine! lol. I know most of you are NOT arab people (or TWH) but we are really happy about getting him. My Boy: [img]http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b254/steffiegilbert/Geldingslittlehea…] His pedigree. I can't get it to display correctly but here are the names! This epic poem, in 60,000 verses, is the first great work of modern Persian literature. It is one of the masterpieces of world art. The word firdausi is the Persianized version of the Arabic work al-fardos, roughly translated as perfect garden, or heavenly garden. [b]Firdausi was bred by Melissa Huprich [Lotus Bloodstock]. Suez was bred by Melissa's father. Yippie, some Arab lovers!!! AND you know I have been having grey withdrawls since I lost Joy and adopted out Bailey. Don't you think based on his mane tail he may end up looking like his sire? He is really going gray fast.

Did you look over his pedigree and know anything about it? I need to be schooled on it a little since I have been out of the loop.

I have thought about calling him:

Frosty
Silver
Cloud

OR

Possum??? lol.

Names, we need names!

Bailey's?
Based on his pic he looks more red-based than his sire, but you never know with how gray screws around...

OT - first year in undergrad I had a physics teacher/TA by the name of Steven Frautschi, who was awesome on so many levels. I'm totally mixing them up. If you want to be super nerdy, you could call him
Steve
Bootstrap
Pomeron
Hagedorn

Oh, THERE is Genetic Testing Man! We need him in the "rare" Appy thread. In fact, I've said it before but I'll say it again here... I think GTM and the Sabino Scapegoat need to be added as stock images here on the forum so we can all type in a simple shortcut and they'll just show up.

Also, I never name a horse after its color. I figure it's all been done. When I got my first little round grey pony, the barn owner wanted me to call him Snowball. Nope, he's Owen.

Ebony was named for her colour...and I can't count the number of changes she's given us...if I didn't know for sure that both mum and dad were black, no agouti in site, I'd be thinking she might be a black bay right now!

Oh, and congrats on the new horse, Steff!!

Do you plan on breeding him, or is he gelded/will be gelded? If breeding is a possibility, I'd have him tested for Cerebellar Abiotrophy. There are some lines in his pedigree that are known to carry it.

Those are good lines, though. Very nice Egyptian horses in his pedigree! And he is quite stunning!

Your wish is my command--feel free to use them at will. Should I upload them into the photo gallery or is there some better way to do this?

His pedigree is highly inbred to a horse named Nazeer - this is what is called "new egyptian" blood. Nazeer was bred in the desert and found and used by the Egyptian state stud (EAO). He had many, many famous offspring, which were exported all over the world. In this pedigree, he comes mainly through his famous sons Ansata Ibn Halima, Morafic, Alaa El Din and Ramses Fayek.

You would be hard pressed not to find Nazeer back in the pedigrees of most modern Arabians. Non-Nazeer, straight egyptian blood is considered a vanishing subgroup. He was probably best known for passing on great "type" to his offspring. I believe he was also very fast, and many of his offspring are noted for movement. He had some conformational defects, notably in the hindend, and some of his offspring did as well.

His lines have several dynasties to their credit, including the Ansata stud, the Al Badeia stud, and the Simeon Stud. I know of two books written about his offspring, one about Ansata Ibn Halima and one about Hanan.

*edited to add - Hanan was a granddaughter
