Which Grulla

critterkeeper Sat, 03/14/2009 - 08:15

The only one with even a snowballs chance of dun was #3 - **STOUT** the grulla mare (and she does have all the "primitive markings")...

As for the Paint - I like him, but I would insist on a LWO test on that one.... :hammer

Edited once to add: this looks like her pedigree (dates/names match) - but don't quote me on that one.

I get it!!! We are being sarcastic!!!! :laugh1 Man I thought we were really going horse shopping. :x

Take a look at this strawberry roan mare!!! Not saying she couldn't have been strawberry roan because her tail at least looks red based so that part is right.

Do we want to pick red based paint going gray on that one? :?

I agree. My first vibe on him was splash, but then the frame doubt crept up.
Not a bad looking horse though even if it isn't grullo....
I feel the same way, but I am a total s*cker for pretty heads and this one does not do that enough for me. Otherwise I could picture this 'grulla' in my pasture. ;)

rabbitsfizz Sat, 03/14/2009 - 11:57

Something is fighting with the Splash on that hind leg, all right!!!

The Grey could be Grulla!!!

Paintlover Sat, 03/14/2009 - 12:16

I would be surprised if that Paint doesn't carry frame!!! He is quite splashy too!!

Vneerland,
Yup!! Exactly. But they could be telling the truth about her being roan. Or the mistook going gray for roan?? Is there a roan test yet?

accphotography Sat, 03/14/2009 - 13:59

No roan test. Gray VERY often causes primitive markings, so I'll go with that.

The loud mare... 100%, no doubt in my mind frame. I know several like this.

I always wanted an ORANGE horse. :rofl But hey, at least she IS a grulla! :rofl

RiddleMeThis Sat, 03/14/2009 - 15:14
Is that the mare that actually is a grulla?
Yes it is.

 How?

I remember that horse and I remember there were quite a few question marks over whether or not he had, actually been tested????

RiddleMeThis Sun, 03/15/2009 - 14:16

Both of the above horses have been tested. The grulla tested Eeaa and the smoky black tested EEaaCRcr.

He was tested once...owners were happy enough with results and saw no need to re-test since he's a gelding.

I would love to see this horse tested again at a different lab.

If he were the only one I'd ever seen like that I might agree.

Do you have other examples of "orange" coloured-tested Black- horses who were born very Chestnut coloured? If so please share! :D

Is it maybe that Dun + LP makes for the confusion..since we know Dun can confuse some I have a regular dun that appeared Dunskin to most but was not. Even registered as a Buckskin in AQHA  maybe th dun and LP really kicks it up .
