hooves! yay!

woot! hoof care forum :) I dont really have anything to say, just wanted to post here. :angel Well, I did get to mess with hooves today, maintenance on an arab with amazing soles, consulting on a shod horse with some pretty screwed up feet, and setup trim on a pretty frame paint. That was kind of funny, I took about half an inch vertical off (looked like a huge difference once the roll was on). the poor guy couldn't figure out where his feet were. He was perfectly sound, just confused for a minute or two, he must have been at that length for quite a while. He got over it and trotted off but for a bit he was walking around without bending his knees and kind of hovering his feet over the ground before stepping. :rofl

Yes, yay, a hoof section!

I trimmed that Appaloosa mare's feet a few days ago -- the one you said was really long and who chipped badly the first time I rode her. I think her feet just knew what needed to be taken off because after the chipping episode and a damage-control trim by me I rode her again and she did not chip at all. Maybe she doesn't need shoes after all. :D

yep, most of the chippy stuff is usually old junk trying to come off. :) the hoof close to the blood supply is the tought stuff.

Oh wow. This could really be a help! I'm tempted to dig up all the stuff from the past and see if we could at least use it for reference....
