What pattern is this?

I'd throw in sabino, and maybe discount frame--the blaze is skimming right in front of the eyes, which is a sabino type thing, especially when mixed with splash.

Possibly Frame- Splash and most more than likely Sabino (as it's pretty much there in some way in nearly all breeds).

Monsterpony Fri, 02/20/2009 - 01:58

I'd guess frame and sabino, maybe splash. The amount of face white and two very high white legs combined with two solid legs indicates frame to me.

MissRascal Sun, 03/22/2009 - 04:53

Definately frame, because of the 2 solid legs. And sabino as well because of the face white. I don't think splash.

rabbitsfizz Sun, 03/22/2009 - 09:43

I do not think that is Frame, but obviously if it's a mare.......
I think that is just Splash and Sabino.

The horizontal movement of the white coupled with the random shape of it (splash is rarely random) screams frame. The back left leg screams splash (as well as the blaze for some reason, though admittedly it could be frame).

Nothing is screaming at me, folks...although I do agree that something is inhibiting the expression on the legs.....

Ya' know, the more I look at that picture, the more irritated I get--why do people NOT run the stirrups up on a loose horse any more???? Actually, why the he** is that horse loose with a saddle on???????????? :hammer :BH

accphotography Sun, 03/22/2009 - 23:23

Loose in a supervised round pen, yes. It's a training tactic. That's how every horse I've had a hand in training has been broken (albeit with western saddles). As for the stirrups, my opinions is a little different since I'm used western stirrups which are always full length and quite heavy themselves. Sure some people take them off, but I like to leave them on. The horse needs to get used to lots of things flopping and slapping around up there.

NZ Appaloosas Tue, 03/24/2009 - 03:10

Be as that may, a green horse never needs to deal with getting stirrups hung up on stuff, and I've seen many a "fully broke" horse decide rolling while wearing a saddle (or even a rider!) is a good idea...guess I'm just old school, where consideration of tack was as paramount as consideration of the horse.

Order of importance was always horse/tack/human, when it came to setting up for/finishing from a ride. We were allowed to go get drinks, visit the loo, etc., after we had finished cooling horse, brushing horse, putting horse away, wiping saddle/bridle down and washing bit. And it didn't matter how many horses we were supposed to ride in a day...

I agree it only takes a minute to tie the stirrups....a piece of baler twine tying them together under the belly would do it and the horse would still have them hanging there and flapping to a controlled degree......

accphotography Tue, 03/24/2009 - 17:59

I like that baling twine idea RF!

I know big name trainers that turn horses loose in a round pen with a western saddle on for a full 24 hours when they're starting them. They may have taken the stirrups and fenders off though, I'm not sure.

That I would not even do, here is a training opps... I had a horse one time turn around and bit and western stirrup and got stuck on his bottom jaw and he rolled and flipped over on the ground , thankfully there was no major damage.

lipigirl Wed, 03/25/2009 - 06:37

bale twine on stirrups is a good idea in this instance....and I still see frame along with the Spash and sabino . :)

"Sire is a black bay dominant for black overo"
Not that this sentence make too much sense but I THINK they may mean his LWO positive?

Horse looks like all three to me.
