Due to decreasing use over the years, I have decided to disable the forum functionality of the site.

Forums will still be available to view but new posts are no longer allowed.

Do you like the site?

I'd like feedback on the site. Please let me know what you like or don't like. Thanks, Daylene

Brilliant banner, its great to be back guys, I've missed you.
just a suggestion though, a register option on the forum page might help with confusion. I spent about half a hour trying to work out why the forum didnt want me to register.

Daylene Alford Fri, 03/06/2009 - 15:43

I'm working on it just haven't had alot of extra time the past couple of days. Hopefully I can get a few things done this weekend. :whip

I am having alot of trouble uploading a picture for an avatar, reduced the file size to 4kb and still says, it has to be between 0 and 4 kb. Is there any way you can increase the filesize? the smallest file size i could get within the 200x200 pixel dimentions was like 25kb.

I think that on the crashed color forum, the locations must have been mandatory.
I will admit (did not fill mine out yet, but am about to) that I liked knowing an approx location of the poster. Are there any votes for making it a required field here too?

Daylene Alford Sun, 03/08/2009 - 13:00

Think I finally have the forum and site looking pretty much the way I want it. I may try to change the colors of the forum later when I have more time but for the time being I'm going to leave it alone. It appears to be loading correctly in both IE and Firefox if you use a different browser and it appears funny let me know.

You will probably have to clear your browser cache for it to appear correctly. In Firefox go to tools>>clear private data or tools>>options>>privacy>>clear now

With IE tools>>general>>browsing history>>delete>>temporary Internet files

And if you have anymore suggestions or features that you would like to see let me know!

I hadn't read this thread before but all of my frustrations were addressed. I actually hadn't come much solely because of them (and due to thinking Heather's site was more active, I was wrong I see). I'm definitely going to enjoy it MUCH more now! :HB

I have to ask (its driving me mad  ) what is the pic in Tianas avatar ????

accphotography Sun, 03/08/2009 - 22:10

One more suggestion. Could we possibly have new links automatically open in a new tab or window. I keep closing the forum to get rid of a link. :sad

Yup the ones inside posts. I can't count how many times I've closed the forum. Ooops, looks like we need a rofl smiley too.

New gripe.
I am sorry to say that the rank colors (admin, moderators?) seem distracting to me. When I come in, I usually look at new posts and with bold and bright different colors for ranking members, it appears as if the board is screaming at you. Most boards that I am on, seem to list status in the profile, but not so much in your face. I may be the only one that feels this way and if so, I apologize.

Daylene Alford Mon, 03/09/2009 - 11:41

I toned down the colors for the admins and moderators. I do want them visible as I think this may discourage people from posting inappropriate comments or links. Right now we also have a large moderator/admin to member ratio. Hopefully the site will grow and that will change.

I also fixed the links so that they will open in a new window. Sorry I hadn't noticed this as I always open links in a new tab out of habit. Apparently opening a link in a new windows is not XHTML 1.0 complaint  So I had to hack the code to add this. I did follow instructions on the phpbb web site but if you find a bug let me know. This change will only affect new links not the links currently posted.

Also I'm not sure if some of the old board members are aware of this but in this version of phpbb links can be automatically recognized without using the [url][/url] tags. So for example you can type [code]www.google.com[/code] and the board will auto create a link.

example link

http://www.google.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

accphotography Mon, 03/09/2009 - 15:55

That's odd. I didn't use a hack and mine validated. How weird. *scratches head*

I'll admit the colors distracted me also, I just didn't realize it until you pointed it out. LOL!

Daylene Alford Mon, 03/09/2009 - 17:14

Maybe you have a different version of the forum installed? The links not opening in a new windows was evidently something that was changed from 2.0 to 3.0. In order "to achieve XHTML 1.0 Strict-validation for the whole board."

http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/links-o…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and yes after Vneerland mentioned it those colors were rather distracting. I hope its better now?

accphotography Mon, 03/09/2009 - 17:27

Well I'm using PHPBB3. However, I just went to check, and the links DO open in the same page. I guess that ha something to do with the way PHPBB is written as I have lots of pages on my sites that open links in new windows and yet still validate. I guess it's just what has to be done to the BB to get that to happen that makes it non compliant. How strange... and frustrating.

This is a silly little question, but maybe Daylene will know:

You know how some sites have a little icon where the browser icon would normally be (top left corner, shows the E for IE or the fox for FF), is there any way to do that for this site? I've got it on my bookmarks toolbar and I keep losing it because it doesn't have it's own icon. (I'm going to go put that  icon in the smilies in a bit LOL)

[quote="admin"]Yes, Admins have moderator permission plus access to most of the internal board settings.[/quote]

Good, so I don't have to worry about mucking around the guts of this thing. :toast

Daylene Alford Mon, 03/09/2009 - 20:49

Yes there is a way to do that. I'd have to find the instructions as I don't remember off the top of my head how to do it.

I'm not good enough with graphics to attempt to make one. If one of you guys want to try I'll see about getting it put up...I'll have to check and see what size they are supposed to be not sure about that one.

accphotography Mon, 03/09/2009 - 21:13

It looks like they're supposed to be 16x16px. Anyone have any idea what would be suitable for the site but still very apparent at 16x16px? The busier they are, the harder they are to understand. Even just a silhouette type design is usually best. Or just a couple letters or a short word.
