Question about LP

How to I designate The pattern gene that produces leopard (and few spot) from the pattern gene that produces blanket (and snow cap)? I just can't remeber the correct nomiclature. Thanks, Daylene

The term is usually PATN. It is more of a spectrum than a gene. Like a near few spot has a larger PATN than snowcap.

So how exactly would I explain that in a article?
It is thought that there are at least two different PATN genes. These genes control the size of the blanket the horse exhibits. A horse that carries LP but no PATN gene will be a characteristic only horse or it may roan as it gets older becoming what is known as an LP roan. A horse that carries LP and a small PATN gene will exhibit a blanket. The size of this blanket can vary. A horse that carries LP and a large PATN gene will exhibit as a leopard."
Does that sound right?

I would say something like: "PATN is the term coined by which to describe the gene(s) which are believed to determine the amount of white expression in an appaloosa pattern. It is believed that PATN-1 is the gene that determines the nose-to-toes coverage of the leopard and fewspot leopard patterning."
So PANT-2 would be the one that causes blankets?
It's PATN-1 for leopards and who knows for the rest!
