What?
Herding dogs must be mostly dark in color. This is because the sheep see that dog as NOT being one of them and think it could be a predator, therefore they try to move away from the dark color dog. This is very helpful as the herding dog does not have to use force (bite) to move the sheep, therefore there is less chance of risk to the sheep. They naturally move away and thus are easily moved from one place to another by a herding (dark color) dog.
What about Old English Sheepdogs? Aren't they herding dogs or are they considered guard dogs and that is different?

I can't see color making a difference. If that was the case black sheep and goats would fear one another. And Gaurdian or Shepard dogs prove that they do not associate dark colors as predators. However most livestock gaurd dogs are raised with the live stock species.

People are strange. Do they really thing sheep are so dumb that they are unable to tell the difference between another sheep and a dog?
