bay or chestnut colt?

hi what color is my 6 day old foal? He has a reddish mane and a black and white tail. sire is liver chestnut , dam is bay. possible is also a red dun sire

Does his tail really have black in it or is it dark red?  It looks dark red in the photos which is why I'm asking.

LOL, yes he is.  I'm still on the fence which is why I haven't answered yet.  If he dark hairs in his tail are true black then he can only be bay.  It also appears (from the first in the second group of photos) that he may have black on the back of  his pasterns.  Bay foals are often born with very little or no black on the lower legs.  This develops when they shed their foal coats and can continue to darken as they age.  Sometimes up to the age of 3 or 4.  

I'm going to go with bay.

Yes, countershading is common in all colors.  Here's an example of a chestnut with countershading along his topline but it can be more extreme than this.

thank you. :) Veranos mother has countershading, red parts in mane and tail and a shoulder stripe . she is a USA import (Paso Fino) and lives now in germany.Yes, he has dark striped socks.   ;)
