Random White Markings

Okay so in one particular line of shetland's white markings are appearing on ponies that parents are solid black with no white markings.
That white patch apparently wasn't caused by injury.
So any ideas if is just coincidental random gene mutations or some form of a white pattern gene that decided to turn recessive?

The foal looks like a very supressed splash and we already know of tested splash animals that are completey solid. Shetlands in general seem to have a lot of white supression. The odd rump spot I would say is somatic and not actually from a white pattern.
