I think black on this one. I won't completely rule out brown but personally I don't see it. 50/50 chance for smokey black the only way to know for sure is to test.

I also don't think he is silver, especially since Shetlands with silver are usually very apparent. I have seen silvers that don't visually look silver so anything is possible.

Unless there is Cream present, Daylene, in which case the Silver does not show so much, but I also do not think he has Silver. I think he is smoky black as that does tend to show more on Minis than on BHs- you are in Oz- right? So this is a UK (based) Shetland or an AmShet??

he has uk breeding but i think that is a few lines back he is in aus the person that breed him got most of her horse imported from the uk. i was thinking he was a smokey black but not sure if it true so what would you guys think i should test for?

Cream and maybe agouti if you're up to it. If you're feeling saucy maybe extension and silver just because. Definitely cream, though. I think.
Unless there is Cream present, Daylene, in which case the Silver does not show so much
I thought this had been largely disproved?

Not to my knowledge but it may be a Mini thing, like Cream tending to show a lot on Black??
No Silver found yet in UK Shets That is why I asked for bloodlines....

There is silver in Australian shetlands, and there are ones in Europe too with UK bloodlines that have silver. But no I don't think this pony has silver. He just looks black to me, but of course could be smokey black. Do the cream test for sure

No. no Silver in UK Shets at all- the colour you are thinking of, I think, is Mushroom- which is Chestnut based...
