Agouti Gene - Can it hide in Black

Is there any reason to test a horse that is phenotypically NON-Bay for the agouti gene, or will it ALWAYS show bay if it carries the agouti gene??

I have seen horses that I would swear were black that have tested positive for agouti. However, it is rare for that to happen.

Agree with the above- unless it were offered free I would not bother to test. Especially if you know the parents colours for fact (as opposed to from registration papers because we both know how accurate the AMHA are with their colours! ymwhisle )
