My 2nd foal arrived although he was 4 wks early

Forums

Slaney foaled a gorgeous Palomino colt on Thursday night. She wasnt due (330 days) till July 12th but she had a bacterial infection a few wks ago which turned her milk into a thick custard. She has been treated with antibiotics for nearly 18 days to clear it up and I would have said it was just cleared when she had him. I had tested her milk Wednesday and it was hardly at 40% and even though her udder was huge it had never gone down from when she had the infection. She showed no other signs and I went out to feed Friday morning to find him in the stable. I had to do a double take as I thought I was seeing things LOL. He was a bit weak and he sounded wet but looked like he had drank and pooped. Then I noticed his eyes looked dreadful and he looked bug eyed and his lashes were stuck to his eyeballs. Anyway got him rugged turned them out for 20 mins while I mucked out and put down a nice deep bed. Put them back in and rang the vet. He arrived and gave him an antibiotic and put a dye in his eyes to test for ulcers and thankfully there were none. Vet said his eyelids would sort themselves out but also gave me eye drop to put in 3 -4 times a day. So I bathe his eyes and give him his drops and even today he is so much better and acting more like a normal foal. He was very sleepy and would faint if stressed and also took him ages to find the milk bar and would go everywhere but the right place but with a little help he would suck away. Even Slaney would reposition herself so that he was in the right place LOL. Anyway without further ado Banners Goldlen Warrior (out of Shadowplay Sahara Moon BMHS X Birchwood UK Buckaroo Banner AMHA) [IMG]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/AoifeGraceWarrioredit.j…] [IMG]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/AoifeWarrior3edit.jpg[/…] [IMG]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/WarriorSlaney2edit.jpg[…] [IMG]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/WarriorSlaney7edit.jpg[…] [IMG]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/WarriorSlaney8edit.jpg[…] [IMG]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/WarriorSlaneyedit.jpg[/…]

If that's four weeks early I'm impressed! He's adorable! I wonder if he'd like living in my apartment...

The reason I am certain of his dates is the stallion was 2 miles away out with a visiting mare and didnt come back to the house till Shimmer was in season and then Slaney followed. Slaney was covered from August 13th to 17th so working off the day she was last covered that put her at July 12th at 330 days. August 13th was her first time back with the stallion last yr.
