Hi all. I am new here and my many searches regarding my filly's unusual color brought me here. I am fairly certain she is a wild bay, and I understand what causes this, though I do not know why or where it came from. I was hoping someone could shed some light on this for me.
I bred her myself and am familiar with her parents and grandparents. Her sire is bay, her dam is a sooty buckskin. She has a full brother who is as bay as they come. She has just thrown me for loop as she has begun shedding out. Her legs are definitely not solid black and her tail is many shades of brown (and as light as a buff color up by her tail head) with a dark brown/black center.
I have seen many of her sire's offspring and none look like this. She and her brother are her dam's only foals so far. Dam's sire was palomino turned gray, dam's dam was bay.
And just for reference...
And just for reference... here are her legs. If anyone thinks I am wrong about the wild bay, I'd be curious as to what this is!! LOL.
