New Dominant White Standardbred!

JBandRio posted this on HGS and I didn't see it over here. http://standardbredcanada.ca/news/5-14-12/rare-white-standardbred-born… Sire is solid, dam has a low back sock and a teeny tiny faint star. We got another de novo KIT mutation my friends. And what's better is that the breeders are educated on what a dominant white KIT mutation is. He lives not too far from me so I am going to see if I can visit them!

You know, this makes me wonder a lot about why we aren't seeing more of these in QHs, which are the most common breed. Why do so many seem to crop up in THoroughbreds and Standardbreds? Is it a genetic thing or are QH people just not that surprised by them enough to make a deal about it>

I think so. Some breeders who don't know genetics might just shrug it off as nothing too out of the ordinary if the foal comes out looking "solid" white.

since im on a melank kick, it seems like that mutation halted the production of nearly all color, but with age some production is working again, so i womder how much color he will gain

I meant that he has speckles and spots that the photographers from news channels and internet news missed. Also that he is probably going to lose his bits of color from roaning because his color expression is similar to the dominant white franches montagnes horses who often get tiny bits of color that turn white as they age.

Sorry for the misunderstanding CM, my fault, I wasn't clear enough.

lol im sure its my fault too, im usually at work or tired when im readin the forums so i didnt read it right; but it would then be the opposite of what i said, little melanin production eventually stopping completely
