Meet Miss Emilie

Forums

Okay, my dark chestnut mare, Poco Smokey Valley, "Valley" for short, was due the end of the month, with what we believe to be the last of foals by Luna (for those who don't know yet, we lost him to a mountain lion the end of Feb.). She has been on foal watch for a couple of weeks and was developing a nice bag, but nothing definitive to say foaling was near (not overly loose or dropped). So when the weather turned nice and warm yesterday, we turned her out after supper to graze with the herd for awhile. About an hour later hubby went down to see if he could scout out a nice turkey tom (it was opening day of turkey season). Within minutes he was calling me (I paniced of course thinking something was wrong) demanding that I "come quick". I got down to the barn and there stood "Momma" and an adorable filly (pali of course). Of course she'd managed to jump the fence and was in a "NO HORSES ALLOWED" area behind the big barn (hiding from sight I believe). Emilie is approx. 39-40 ins. tall (hubby too stats), and weighs in at 97 lbs (she has some LEGS on her for sure). We only had cell phones so the pixs are NOT SO HOT...but will try and get decent ones with the "real camera" tomorrow (while playing with Emilie - yes I am a War Horse fan). She found the milkbar with virtually NO help...lol. [IMG]http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i99/jcritterkeeper/Milkbarexpress.jpg…] Why is it that a mare looks like a starving rescue after delivery and we women look like beached whales? I'm just saying.... [IMG]http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i99/jcritterkeeper/Mommagettingbrushe…]

If the sun ever comes out again, I will get pixs...it has been cloudy or rainy "forever"...it is crazy ~x( (I am beginning to think we have been teleported to Seattle or London.... :-? )

Congrats, CK! We have one mare that always looks like her skin is two sizes too big after delivery. Bugs the crap out of me, but within 24 hours she's back to normal..

Like I said, when the sun comes out (and it dries out) it has rained at least every other day for over a month now...and it's raining again now (was hopeful after a day 1/2 of no rain, just clouds)...hubby is back to work so I can't chance going down to the barn alone to take pixs. I will try and get hubby to get some (or at least come with me incase i fall) when he gets home this weekend.
