Tested Splash Horses

I thought it would be interesting to start a thread for horses who have been tested for splash and their results. So, If you have a horse that is being tested and you'd like to share their photos and the test results, please post them here. Hopefully this will give us a better idea of what, if any, visual differences exist between the 3 splash mutations and also give us a better idea of what truly constitutes a splash marking and how minimal they can be.

I got confirmation today that the lab has received the samples.
Your sample has been received.. . . Please allow 5-10 business days for results to be available. We will email you the results and if requested send a hard copy in the mail.
I guess I will get Destiny tested, but the rest of my mares just don't seem splashy to me :-? - except Patches and she has so many patterns it'd be difficult to tell where the Splash begins and the rest end... :BH ~x(

I am going to test my three ponies as soon as I come up with the cash (all are obvious splash with blue eyes, but should be interesting to see which mutations they have). Then I am going to go through my entire teaching herd and test every horse including the none splashes like the Fjords just to see. So excited!
Songcatcher, post some pics of the ones you sent tests off for!
I would love to test them all, but am starting with half the herd. First, I am testing Image, who is my main herd stallion. He is lab tested LWO positive and negative for Cream. BUT he also has "something" else. He has produced at least three solid or near solid Whites, and NOT lethal. He has some white on one foot, and very minimal roaning throughout his coat. When I bought him, he was described as having a partial blue eye, but it certainly is not noticible. Really just a few blue flecks.

[IMG]http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b218/…]

Also testing Noah, who is very obviously Splash with two blue eyes. He is homozygous for Tobiano and negative for LWO. He also has considerable roaning in his Black areas.

[IMG]http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b218/…]

Nu Genes, is lab tested heterozygous for Tobiano and negative for LWO and Cream. Although she doesn't have any markings that I would point to and say, "that is Splash", she comes from a line of horses that very obviously carry Splash and she has produced a filly (by Image) who has one blue eye (not testing the filly this time).

[IMG]http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b218/…]

Scholars Bright Side (Tiny) is negative for LWO, Cream, and Tobiano. Her dam was solid White except for one brown ear and her sire was solid Black, except for one white foot. Not sure about the parents eyes, but Tiny has one blue eye. She has been bred to Image for 2012.

[IMG]http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b218/…]

Angel Eyes is LWO negative, has a roaned star, and one blue eye.

[IMG]http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b218/…]

And last, but not least is Hello Mary Lou. She is heterozygous Tobiano, Negative for LWO, and very obviously Splash with two blue eyes. Her sire is the B/W stallion running with the foal in my avatar.

I'll post more pictures if necessary after the results come in.

CrookedHalo09 Fri, 01/20/2012 - 19:36

I got an email today that they received my sample, I can't wait to get the result and to see everyone else's results!

Threnody Fri, 01/20/2012 - 19:42

I'm looking forward to the results for all of them! Really hoping Angel Eyes comes back confirmed positive since he could be a great example of how minimal splash can be.
Anyone hear of any arabs being tested?
As 3/4 arab, she may not count for what you are looking for, but I've sent in hair for my girl:

And this is her pure arabian sire, who looks splashy to me:

ETA: The circles on the picture of my horse are not indicative of my feelings on splash -- I was pondering the possibility of frame in that picture. I just reused the picture for this post. :)

Daylene Alford Sat, 01/21/2012 - 22:37

Hehe I remember her from when you asked about frame. I still love her blaze. I think of an ostrich when I see it.

An ostrich, heehee! I apparently have a lack of imagination because I didn't see any images in her blaze until one of my husband's friends pointed out that it looked like someone touching their fingers to their thumb. Now I can't not see it!

I can see the ostrich, but was thinking more of a sock puppet... :rofl

I plan on testing my SSH mare as soon as I have some funds (other stuff I want to test her for as well just for my own curiosity). She is tobiano in addition to splash and has a blue eye :)

Songcatcher Mon, 01/23/2012 - 19:34

The results are in! :bounce I have started a new thread as I am concerned that if everyone posts their results in the same thread it will become confusing.

Thanks to everyone who has been cross posting links. My clicky counter on my website has been going crazy the last few days.

Let me throw out this idea. Perhaps it is the SW2 or SW3 that causes deafness????

Pacific Pintos Thu, 01/26/2012 - 09:25

In reply to by Daylene Alford

I don't think so. I think the deafness is more common than that. But we are all learning together so we will know more.

I just sold a horse that I think was a splashed white tobiano. I retained some hair before she left in case I wanted to test her. I do think she was deaf or partially deaf. Made a great kids horse as she is calm and does not run off with the kids. Does not spook. Perfect for the young ones.

Still waiting for my test results........
