We braid individual braids
We braid individual braids (5-6 or more depending on the horse) and then use Electric Tape to keep it up. :) Its the best thing we've found and it works amazing!

Keeps it from getting stepped on/eaten and won't rub out as easily. :)
He needs to get some grass
He needs to get some grass inside of him as you can see from the pics, he has the physique of a 2yr old and no topline, which will come with condition and work. This was his first bath from me and I really should have taken before pics to show you the transformation, I wasn't looking for him, he found me and I couldn't leave him there. I sold some stuff to pay for him and my Aunt added to it and now we have a sweet little guy to call our friend.
Oh and by the way, his name if accepted on his registration will be Taburer Eclipse at Alamanda. This is because my Mum after she nearly died the last time, 3yrs ago, wrote 3 children's books (which I have promised her I will get published) they are about a Gypsy boy and his horse Drummer and they have a christian ethos to them. Taburer is an old English name for Drummer and Eclipse because of his left eye. We will of course call him Drummer.
He is standing on a slope in the pics too - just in case you are wondering, and his tail is under his back hooves. Will def try the plait and tape idea thanks.

I always parted Rabbits tail
I always parted Rabbits tail and plaited it up- ie I plaited two thirds of it them rough cut the rest level with the ground so that he has something to swat flies with and the tail looked normal!
Rabbit has always had a really long tail, trailing the ground (still has but I tend to cut it now) and I used elastic bands then vetrap to hold it in place.
Make sure you put a really good conditioner on it before braiding it up and do not plait too tight- it breaks the hair.
Before putting it up for the winter I would wash, condition and then put a light oil (coconut) on it, and plait it very loosely then wind it up and wrap with vetrap (use a neutral one as it can stain) I used to let it down once a month, and come spring it was great.
No advice on the mane and
No advice on the mane and tail but I would love to see some pics of your new guy.
