Oooohhh, fascinating! That IS really strong, isn't it? Makes me suspicious of dun now...

Love the mare, too! I didn't realize they could have multiple patches. It looks red, too. I wonder if she's bay-based?

I believe Gachi was bay based. I don't have any old photos of her except for her show photo from when she first got here and she looks basically the same. But the lighting is bad and you can barely even see the markings!

I wondered about the Iberian Dun to with a few of ours actually. Its just a LOT...

And Hoofpick, how do I go about sending you hair? Just let me know what you need and from whom and I'll get you set up. :)

Dun type markings are indeed very common on grays but how "far apart" are dun and gray? Would it be possible for them to be linked in certain lines? I've never looked into it but have wondered about it off and on for a number of years.

Fantastic swing! ok you just take a pinch of hair from the neck rib and rump and pop in a labled zip lock bag and then send to me. (will pm you the details.) would love hair from any grey/dilute and especially anything displaying dun factors. Pearl is also one I'd love as I've haven't had a look at any yet. lovely foal and I love the mare!!

Yea, we don't have any pearl or dilutes in the andalusians of ours but I can gather some hair from a few horses I think are interesting. :) It may be a few days before I can get the hair. Some of the foals are a bit picky on being caught and would need some help from the hubby. lol

I agree with gray mimicking dun in this case. I also agree that it is a shame these phases are so temporary. The bloodmarks on the one mare are really neat. ^_^

I hope that a direct test for dun might happen in the future. If they do we could find out if the Iberians have a new mutation. This guy is the one that makes me think the Iberians might have dun but I can't find any more info on his pedigree. http://www.newdilutions.com/other_dun/A…
