If I recall, it was said to be a somatic mutation? Tho I think I've heard it called chimeric. Don't quote me on it tho. I always refer to one of these guys here.

I think that, in this particular horse, it is chimirism causing the two colours :-? :-? I might not be remembering right tho ymwhisle

Its not really "known" per se, as no one has done any tests on him as far as I know, but the most likely bet is chimeric.
