Need dog photos to use as examples

I will be starting the articles on dog colors hopefully this evening. I have no photos. If you have photos that I can use as examples please email them to me or post them to the dog forum. http://canine.colorgenetics.info/forum

Very fun. I might be able to contribute some collie and sheltie photos with examples of agouti, merle, sooty and white-factor in those breeds.

And those puppies are made of cute rodeoratdogs. ^_^

rodeoratdogs Sun, 04/10/2011 - 09:43

Agouti is in my sable dogs right? that's what I was thinking I understood from reading on that Rat Terrier color genetics website I posted in the puppy section awhile back.

Edited because the pics came out wrong.... weird

Jordie0587 Sun, 04/10/2011 - 15:04

Rodeoratdogs dogs are the same genes dobies have plus a piebalding gene. Dobermans just don't get the solid red like pinschers and dachshunds do.

rodeoratdogs Sun, 04/10/2011 - 15:11

Yeah I knew that, the Rat Terrier got there black and tan color from the Manchester Terrier, one of the original dogs they were bred from. What I was wondering is if the Sable was Agouti? I think it is.

Pretty dogs by the way.....

Dilutes Sun, 04/10/2011 - 20:02

Here are some pics you're welcome to use. I can email them to you if they're of any use, or you can save them directly.

These are pics of my 3/4 GSD Kaiser (not sure what the 1/4 is, we didn't breed him, just offered him a home because he needed one).

We thought Kaiser would be a sable but his coat changed and he ended up with a gold/tan coat with black muzzle and a bit of mixed colours remaining in his tail. The white markings he was born with have gone and now it's pale in those areas instead of actual white.

rodeoratdogs Sun, 04/10/2011 - 20:31

Jordie what you are calling fawn in your Dobi we call Pearl or Isabella in our Rat terrier's Pearl is diluted chocolate(or brown). The color terms are used loosely in the breed registry's just like in horses.
IMO this dog would be blue fawn and white, (sable with blue points).

Monsterpony Sun, 04/10/2011 - 20:49

Hmm, I have very few dog pictures that would be even remotely useful. Compared to my tens of thousands of horse photos, I have only two that I think might work.

One is a red Heeler.

The other is a Shiba Inu.

Monsterpony Sun, 04/10/2011 - 20:55

Nope, not mine. An old roommate's.

I did dig up an image of my own dog from when I was a kid. Not sure if it would be useful or even what color you'd call him.

One of the comments was that the mismark on tail and leg were because of the proximity of each to the other in the womb...true/false/maybe/who knows?

What's up with photobucket??? I had to re-upload a bunch of pics on my website because "they are doing a little work right now" I can't afford that stupid message to be posted all over my website when I'm trying to sell puppies, anyway my husband said I can keep the blue/tri puppy, I wanted to name him "Rodeoratdogs Cowbob Ranchpants" but my husband said I can't keep him if I name him that :rofl .He thinks "Rodeoratdogs Rockstar" is cool, what do you guys think? any other ideas...here he is.

rabbitsfizz Wed, 04/13/2011 - 10:32

That is a cute pup and I think your name is cool, but I actually agree with your husband! You can use anything you want as a call name, after all...........

Gorgeous dogs!

All of the dogs in my photo's except one are rescue dogs. So I have no control over their ears, that's how they come. Except my fawn. I bought her like that, but I'm in the USA and it's pretty much impossible to buy a nice dog without them coming with ears/tails/dews done.... unfortunately, a breeder that is willing to leave them undone is not likely a breeder you want to get a dog from either. Until something wins in the show pen without them, they'll be a mainstay.

Crias Sun, 04/17/2011 - 08:10

I have lots of dog photos - maybe a list of what you need would be helpful. I've taken photos at lots of dog shows.

I can provide photos of Belgian Terv and Groen (sheepdog), which are usually mentioned in articles as they have both a dominant black AND a recessive black. I have both fawn, red and grey tervs.

brindles, fawns, harl, blue, black and mantle great danes (I photographed a dane specialty a couple of years ago)

cattle dogs

some aussies

elkhound/keeshond

and lots more

rodeoratdogs Sun, 04/17/2011 - 10:27

8-| So does anyone know the answer to my fawn question? The diluted chocolates in Rat terrier are called pearl or Issabella, although they do not have a choice for it on the AKC registration, so I just check put the # for choc on a pearl dog, since technically it is a choc, just diluted.

This website adresses the subject, scroll down to what's in a name. It's kind of like the whole "Overo" thing.

Daylene Alford Sun, 04/17/2011 - 11:27

Thanks everyone for offering such great photos. I've been working on the articles but it takes me a while to get things exacly how I want them. Currently I'm in need of a photo of a sable, a grizzle, and a recessive black. Grizzle only occures in a few desert hound breeds. I actually had a photo of a brindle and a Dominant black so I'm good there.

I do however need lots of photos for the canine photo gallery. Its very bare atm. I can provide links on photos and whatever other photo credit you would like. You can just email me the photos along with how you would like the photo credits to read and I'll get them added or if your really motivated I can give you access to the gallery and you can upload your own.

You Ladies are great!
