Hi,
We are looking a buying a buckskin filly and I was wondering about the different shades available in buckskins.
Is it possible to make a guess at what agouti genes the horse may have due to its shade?
This is a picture of the filly, sire is buckskin (will attach a pic of him in the next post) and dam is chestnut.
Sorry!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but no, you cannot tell the dept of color of an animal based on its agouti status...only that it will be either a buckskin, bay or brown (based on type of agouti - i.e. A vs At).
Sooty tends to affect dept of color but there is no test for that (and it is an even bigger guessing game than some of the other color modifiers).
P.S. couldn't see the first pix you posted.
This is her sire.
