Animal Genetics

Apparently has two new DNA tests--Lp and CSNB. Not sure who else has gotten around to making the "appy test" yet. Diane

Grapevine. LOL Apparently one of my appy friends has had some recent testing done with them, and she either asked or they volunteered the info.

They are not set yet on having the test, they are trying to see if there is enough interest to justify the expense of setting up/offering it. There are two other labs, not yet identified, that are also looking into it.

I've seen that, and I find the email that they sent my other friend very misleading. They specifically tested her horse, and said that they were going to be offering the tests.

I talked with Arne of AG around the beginning of the week about it and he said the issue is that even though Cornell had little to do with developing the test they are the ones seeking the patent on it.
He told me that he would much rather give the royalties from the testing to the App Project then Cornell. The biggest thing is seeing if there is enough interest to warrant talking with Cornell on the royalties. He said that if you send in your appaloosa for other testing and you request it, they'll contact Cornell and the App Project and okay it with them to be part of the study.
I know I have about 3 mares that are solid and are App x App breeding and I would really like to know their Lp status. They did do the Lp on my stud when I sent in to get him PSSM tested and of course I knew he would come back n/Lp which he did. When I send in these mares for PSSM testing I'll request the other tests.

Little birdie told me that the app project is working with Cornell regarding the patent. So, Arne may want to call either Sheila or Rebecca to get some straight goss on the situation.

Why is there a separate test for CNSB and Lp? I thought they had been determined to be the same mutation.
