Wow I'm shocked here's the clip :razz: http://animal.discovery.com/videos/dogs-101-rat-terrier.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They're pretty popular dogs! At least they are around here. Very popular around the farms here as they seem to be a little more level headed than JRTs. My best friend growing up had 2 and a half rat terriers! (one was half chihuahua) Now she breeds them, but...she's kind of a crazy person now... I always liked them a lot, and there aren't very many terrier breeds that I'm fond of.

They are getting to be more known now that they are in the AKC foundation stock registry, I know they have always been more popular in your area because they are great farm dogs, but I was still surprized to see them on dogs 101. My brother ordered his first one out of a hunting magazine from the midwest in the early 60's and we have had them ever since. I have 2 litters due now and I'll post pix when they arrive. :)

I can't wait, this will be my female Tequila's, (I call her La La) first litter, she is blue/tan and white and my male is choc/tan and white so I should get both those colors and pearl hopefully.
The only thing I don't agree with on the dog 101 clip is they used the wrong dog for the example of the smooth fox terrier :roll: , that wasn't a smooth fox terrier, and as far a being cautious around small children I would say that would only be true for the Toy rat Terrier. Rat Terriers come in Toy, Mini, Standard and Giant, the Mini's Standards and Giants and quite sturdy. Mine are Standard 14-15" and La La is a Mini about 13", but a very sturdy muscular mini.

We used to have a Rat Terrier when I was little (around 3 or 4) that was named Peanut...I loved that dog. She was a toy (only about 4 or 5 lbs and around 10 ins if I remember right - basic Chihuahua sized) :love

When we moved to Michigan, my mom thought the weather would be too much for her during the winter so she gave her to a family that lived a few miles up the road from her mom. Their house was WAY back off the road -- it was 300 ft up their drive to their parking spot, then you had to cross a 20ft hanging bridge to get to the 100ft wide yard to the front porch....then up huge steps (about 10 ft wide) to the wrap-around porch....the reason, I am going into detail to to give you a visual of Peanuts "DOMAIN" and NO RODENTS (squirrels and rabbits included) were allowed within that domain... :bounce
So how big are the Giant ones then?
The Giant ones are also know as the Decker Rat Terrier, they are about 16-19" and 22-40 lbs.

Here is Ellis Decker's website, so you can see some picture's, Ellis is the source for the Decker Rat Terrier IMO. His Father was the original breeder of the Decker's.

Yeah, we talked about that we both knew him but it was awhile back, I just posted some of his horses in interesting color patterns too, he's got some really pretty babies right now.
