He's very tiny!! Very cute though
Re: 2010 foals so far
CUTE! he's just tall enough to reach mammas milk.
Gosh I thought the opposite, my first pony ever was a silver shetland and they are very very common.

Re: 2010 foals so far
UK shetlands don't usually have silver in them. American shetlands are a breed of their own LOL! I don't know where the Australia shetlands get the silver, it's not at all common here in them, but obviously it's there. Australia had a lot of silver ponies around in the early days, so the chances are it was bred in before the stud book properly started. The Australian shetlands are accepted in the UK stud book though.
Here's a rough paddock picture last month I think it was, of my little fella. Please excuse his chewed tail, he was on weanling duty over winter and one thought he looked tasty! His mane and tail are very light too, when clean :oops: His main duties in life are being a teaser for all the stud mares, and weanling duty in winter! He gets an occasional mare though. I never have nice pictures of him as he usually looks feral!! :)
He's got a cute face, I didn't know that silver shetlands weren't as common in the UK, that's interesting, it seems like just about every one I remember growing up was silver here in the US.
I don't think I've ever even seen a silver shetland at all in the UK, but it wouldn't surprise me to find a rare one hidden away there somewhere
Re: 2010 foals so far
When I was always shocked when I'd see a photo of a shetland in a book and it looked....athletic. Mine were stocky little beasts.
This is the only pic I have online of Patches: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-s…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Funny, I didn't even realize he was silver until just today. I never thought about it.
And Sheba, well you've all seen pics of her: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-a…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I really want to dig through photo albums and try to find more pictures of my old ponies. I really miss Sheba, I wish we'd taken more photos of her.
I personally still think it came from maybe UK or even more likely Europe, the UK just went through a real anti colour regeme about 100 years ago and bred a lot of colours out! And well sold many of the more unusual ones out of the country.
Ohhhhhh color prejudice, one of my pet peeves! :BH

The first pony has much longer legs than I'd consider a 'proper' shetland. My silver shetland stallion certainly isn't a good example of proper shetland type either, for here anyway. But that chestnut, she looks more shetland, what a sweetie!

Oh I can see shetland in her, how cute!
Re: 2010 foals so far
The first one I don't know if he was really a shetland. Well, either of them actually. But they were sold to us as shetlands. The second, Sheba, was an amazing pony, but a trouble maker! She definitely had a pony personality. When she was tired of you riding she'd stop and sit on her haunches like a dog. Then whether you got off or not, she'd plop down and roll. She was awful to everyone but me haha!
Re: 2010 foals so far
Ha Ha =)) , mine was terrible mean lol! The one with me sitting on her she taught me how to ride the hard way, my mom was clueless about horses, so looking back it's amazing I didn't get hurt with no helmet. She would stop at a gallop and put her head down and I would roll off her front, or she would turn into a driveway at a gallop and I would fly off in the opposite direction, and she would run away with me home when she'd had enough of me riding all over the neighborhood, I still loved her though :love. I just hung on and got back on and learned to ride good, since I mostly rode bareback.
Re: 2010 foals so far
Yeah I was trying to imagine how he did that, did you have to dig a hole for the mare to stand in?......LOL!
