Always Wondered What Happened To Her...

my big belgian mare I owned that is... I bought Big Momma after my TWH mare Libby died. I wanted a project horse and Libby's foal was only 3 months old. So I bought a big 10 y/o Belgian mare to train under saddle. Only thing..she didn't care much for someone on her back...ground driving and dragging stuff she was fine...but I wanted a riding horse. So I sold her to a gentleman who raised haflingers and he planned on finishing her off to drive. Have always wondered what became of her..and will sometimes just google Clairlea's Royal Splash (her reg. name) did that today and this popped up...an '09 foal of hers for sale! http://www.draftsforsale.com/ShowAd/index.php?id=4c20ea221babc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I sent an e mail to him in hopes that I can hear how she's doing...no harm in that. Also told him I had a couple of pics of a foal she had previous to me owning her if he was interested in seeing them.

it is her :) She is retired from breeding now..if memory is correct..she is 6..Booger was her last foal. They are looking for a home for her. They did say that someone did a number on her head and it took them a few years to gain their trust. They've had her for 6 years..so the guy who got her from me flipped her pretty fast and did something to her mindset because I sold her 6 years ago. She WAS a super sensitive mare when I had her, another reason I sold her, but so long as you took your time with her she would listen and try to please you. She has given them one pure belgian foal and two premium spotted draft horse foals :)

If only I had the time/money/room for a super sensitive, HUGE Belgian mare....I'd bring her back to my place to retire her. To date, this is the only horse I've ever sold. I'm just glad to hear she wound up with some people who had a use for her

they sent me some pics of her two Spotted Draft foals (one is the one in the ad up in original post)

I got a bit more on her history since she left my place:
apparently the guy who bought her from me to finish her driving training (she was ready to hook up to a training sled at that point) just let her sit in a field full of haflingers and then sent her to meat auction. Someone recognized her bloodlines and got her out...at some point a young girl in Toledo got her, but she was too much horse...then these people bought her and got three foals from her. She couldn't find pics on the computer of her belgian colt.
She is a 1993 mare and is still breeding sound and all that...but with the economy the way it is, they have made the decision not to breed and Booger, the black and white '09 colt, was her last foal.

So...if anyone near N. Lawrence, Ohio (I think that is up around Akron) is looking for some drafties.....she said she'd be willing to lower the price on Booger, and that Big Momma is looking for a home as well.

for Big Momma (Clairlea's Royal Splash) she said:
I appreciate you checking around for her. Like I said she is in perfect
health. I don't want any money for her just to ensure a good home. She has
earned her retirement.

Awww! How awesome! I always wish I could find out more about the ones I've sold, it's great that you got to learn about her! I'm glad someone snatched her from auction and she's safe and sound.

Hello  I wanted to let you know I was the young girl from the toledo area,  I bought splash from a guy who raised and sold halflingers.  She was going to be a first horse for me, but she was to much horse for a beginner, unfortunately the guy who sold her to me said she would be perfect for a beginner.  It took me 3 weeks to gain trust in her once I got her home.  I sold her to a guy who was going to finish her as a driving mare, but the next year he called me and said she had delivered a beautiful colt.  That is the last I heard of her until reading these post.  She was a beautiful mare, and a pleasure to own once she trusted me, but I was looking for a riding horse as well.
