Critique Mini filly - thanks.

Hi, she is a 5 mth old Mini - please excuse "bum high" LOL. Not the best pic front on pic as she was being naughty trying to nip my gelding but you can see her chest, she's not "narrow" like alot of Mini babies, got a nice chest on her (which you can see better when she's behaving!!! ) [img]http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad275/jenamirmysticmoondancer/Lily/d…] [img]http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad275/jenamirmysticmoondancer/Lily/l…] Not the best behind pic but best i have. My gosh she's nice! I don't know about mini's....but as a regular horse her head would be termed exotic! Eyes are large and dark, nice small small ears, her shoulder is laid back, but the angle of her shoulder is a little closed. Her withers are low, and fitting her in a saddle will be difficult (!! haha). She has a lovely topline and nice legs! Especially compared to the one next to her in the hind shot!

* For some reason F-i-t-t-ing is being bleeped out! LOL

HAHAHAHA wouldn't she be cute once mature, little pony pad on her back? :ymdaydream:

Thanks Jenks, i'm mighty proud of her as a "whole", i think she's nicer than her dam (i still own) & i could go as far to say she's nicer than her sire (dont' have him no more).
Few niggling little things i would change on her but i guess she's only a bubby.
Can't wait to upload mature pics when she's levelled out some!

*ps, she's extra special as i bought her dam whilst she was foundaring. Couldn't walk, when her terribly long feet were trimmed days later, they bleed. Heard rumours later on that the mare was a difficult breeder & couldn't get her in foal for sometime.
I tried with another stallion i use to own, preg tested - no good, served her to the sire of the filly 5 mths later, wow she actually took AND carried the filly fullterm. :love

I like her! She has good legs (always a priority with me) and what a pretty face!!! As regards the one next to her, I dont think its a bad thing for a young one to be slightly cowhocked...when their bottom muscles develop and they fill out up there, those legs will straighten nicely! :pop

She's very nice and a lovely head but watch out those minis that have an Arabian head often suffer teeth problems due to their tea cup mouths, keep an eye on them and get extractions if they look like crowding. As to cowhocks 95% of all minis have them to a certain degree...don't like it but it seems it's there to stay.

Gosh look at that pretty head!!! She looks nice to me. Is she wide behind, or is that just the way she is standing? That's a huge no no on the shetties, but that might be because they are built like little drafts!

Kylie_80 Mon, 05/31/2010 - 19:25

Thanks Danni, yep i could say she stands wide behind but doesn't move like it.
As an example the gelding i'm holding in the pic above doesn't stand wide behind but moves widely (from behind), kinda walks like a duck LOL! It's rather noticable on him loose in the paddock (i can't tell at shows as i'm handling him LOL).
Whereas the filly - you can't see that, she walks/trots lovely compared to the gelding, poor Ducky HAHAHA!!!

Cheers Lipigirl, she's actaully not got a neat little teacup muzzle (sorry Lily), normally you see their little faces taper off to this tiny teacup muzzle but i think Lily has a bit of a honker (gosh i'm mean LOL).
But i def understand what you mean, i dealt with a Mini filly with a bad teeth/jaw issue poor gal - we deregistered her & gave her away as a pet & thankfully she'll come back here if they end up not wanting her no more. Not much room in her little mouth for all those teeth! :-(

Thankyou everyone, it's great to hear someone elses opinion/constructive critisim (sp) as most times the judges don't say much although i've had great comments for 3 of the 4 judges she's shown under.
She's been in 3 Foal Classes (mixed sex so any foal under 1 yr, x2 Mini pony & x1 Coloured Under 12.2hh) & always placed first, numbers range from 4 to 7, 3rd out of 7 or 8 in a 3yrs & Under 12.2hh & Under Colour class against other breeds beside Mini's, x2 2nds in a 3yrs & Under Mini Pony class, x3 Reserve Champions so she's done me proud & can only get better.
