She is very dark classic champagne since they shed off lighter than their foal coat. No that won't work her eyes are dark....Oh well that was my one guess...

how old in those photos?
do we know what color the sire and dam are?
All skin pink (where there is pigmented hair) or just around they eyes?

Cyn was a chestnut, but he had pink skin, it darkened as he aged. I've seen a few chestnuts with that color skin, but never one that dark.

I havent seen enough black foals born to know if they have a similar occurance as chestnuts do at birth...

Oh that's bizarre! Although not a usual effect I'm still going to guess that either cream or pearl on black did this, and will go normal colour as matures?? Who is the sire and dam do you know?

accphotography Mon, 05/03/2010 - 19:26

Isn't it bizarre looking?

She really looks just plain black to me. I've never heard of a black base being born with pinkish skin (like chestnuts).

Her owner is in Belgium and all of her posts are in French so I can't tell much about anything.

She was born April 16th.

I can't tell who the sire is, but if it's one of her own horses, he's not a dilute (she has no visible dilutes).

I finally found more photos of her, and thus photos of her dam. I should have looked for this first. I HIGHLY suspected this, but something about it just didn't feel right so I kept looking for another explanation. Check out her dam:

Yeah I'd guess so. I still find it odd though. No mottling on the nose, no actual mottling on the eyes, just pure pink, no other visible characteristics. Odd.

And that is why I say people should not breed pintaloosas...what a waste of two nice patterns!

Even before I saw pics of mom I was going to say appy. Just a feeling I had.

Yes, me too. I would say, based on the dam, that she is minimal Pintaloosa.

me also - know a little mare withe eyes just like that she is a varnish black.

My first guess was gonna be that she is grey and vitiligo started early, lol!
