Hi from Washington state

OMGosh I missed this part and jumed right into what color is my horse....lol! My name is Alicia, I have owned and trained my own horses since I was a little kid. I currently own 4 American Paint horses, but have also owned Appaloosas and love just about any horse of a different color. I'm extremely interested in equine color genetics and am looking forward to learning alot on this forum. Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome and the compliments on my horses. The first pic is my 5 year old filly Illusion out of the second pic mare Mia. I have had Mia since she was a 5 year old in 1996 so we have been together for awhile. The other 2 kids "Doc" bay gelding and "Annie" red dun Overo, we just got in the last 6 months.

NZ thanks for inviting me over, its fun, informative and interesting. :toast

:newbie Howdy Alicia, from the Mid-Atlantic...(Blue Ridge Mtns of NC - a hop, skip and 2 jumps from "Mayberry").
You have some nice "barn buddies". :D

My name is Kylene and I have 5 mares (1 each bay Paint, bay, dark chestnut and 2 sorrel); 2 fillies (both pali: yearling and 9 days); 1 stallion (cremello) and 1 sorrel gelding. I was as ignorant as a newbie could be when I first found this group, but I now find myself shaking my head at all the erronious "ads" now...lol I am sure you will find the same to be true for yourself as well...

P.S. WARNING: The pinto patterns are Tobiano, Splash (or splash white), Sabino and Frame...if you slip up and use that "O" word, a English "Rabbit" will attack :hammer

Hello Kylene, pleased to meet you and thanks for the warning, I'll try to remember not to use the "O" word :rofl
And stay away from "tovero"! That word makes the natives restless! :rofl

Diane
Well wait a minute, I have 2 of the "T" "O" words, what am I supposed to call them Trames???? :rofl

Monsterpony Tue, 04/27/2010 - 14:34

Just write it out! :D It may take a little longer to write tobiano frame splash sabino rabicano, but that sure means a lot more than tovero to the rest of us :rofl

Yeah, sorry, it's me twitching whenever the "o" or the "T" words are used.
Problem is, they are just a word to you, over here they always seem to be coupled with the word "rare" as a means of selling something that should have been gelded or sold as a pet (I'm in Minis BTW, ) nothing wrong with pets, nothing at all, but they should not cost fancy prices.
Also, as said, it does not actually mean anything.
To call a LWO+ "Overo" that's fine.
Not fine to call a Sabino an overo or to lump Sabino and Splash in with Frame, as that is where a lot of the confusion starts.
Ask anyone with a Pinto or a Paint over in Oz, they seem to have really got the wrong end of the stick!

OK, sorry about that!![img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/…]
Getting down now, I promise!
Love the horse in your avatar, really cool markings.

Oops....welcome!!!

Hi, no problem at all, The APHA still lumps Sabino, Splash and Frame together and calls them all Overo, but I know the difference ;). I have to do a status change on my 2008 minimal tobi gelding from solid bred to regular papers as his back socks are high enough according to the last rule change for him to get regular status, but I wouldn't be surprised if his papers come back callling him a Overo .
Thankyou for the compliment on my filly in my avatar. I bred her and she is out of an old favorite mare of mine. I love her unusual markings around her eyes. She is mostly all white with just the color around her eyes and one on her left gaskin and a red tail....lol. I know she is Frame/Tobiano, but probably has atleast Splash as well, and maybe even Sabino and thats why she is mostly white.

I love your Shadowplay in your Avatar as well, he is beautifully marked and very handsome!
