After weeks, upon weeks of waiting (dang pasture breds anyway) for my "lady in waiting" to produce her first foal, hubby convinced me to go fishing up at the pond (we were only gone about 3-4 hours). When we returned, here comes Valley (Poco Smokey Valley to those of you not familiar with my herd) trotting right up to the fence for her "loving", bringing right along with her a nice new pali FILLY. (And of course my camera's battery is DEAD and for some reason my new phone is NOT communicating with my PC - drats. WILL gets photos later today or early a.m. once camera charges.) She, no name yet, is VERY long-legged and a true BLONDE - no doubts about her color as she is as light as milk toast with a nice round white star right between her beautifully shaped head (even has a slight dish like daddy's). It looks like she has for tiny socks (some of you will remember that Luna "appears" to have 4 socks and a star - kinda hard to see under all that WHITE, lol). You will see the difference between this filly and Goldie in a heartbeat - which is surprising considering as deep and dark a chestnut as Valley is compared to the Maya's sorrel coat. Valley is one heck of a momma and she did it all on her own -- she gave NO signs of labor before we left, was just out grazing in her little pasture, happy as a clam. She is still very calm for a first-time momma, not even snapping at the dogs who are excited about the new arrival (she just cuts them off if they get too close and moves her baby out of their view). We are so proud of her.

I know, I was so disappointed my new phone wouldn't talk to my pc - different brand from my last one and I don't have the software for this one (cant find it yet either).

This filly is SOOO long legged (hubby was calling her "Long Tall Sally" when showing her off to the kids & grandkids). She is 41.4 inches tall and probably weights around 100 lbs. I was reading the thread by pruvianpasogal and her new foal that was standing underneath "mommy" - well, this filly could no more get underneath Valley than a man in the moon (she'd have to get down on her knees to get under).

Hey! You posted on Saturday evening and promised to take pictures by Sat evening or Sun morning at the latest. It is now Monday afternoon ... plenty of time to get pics posted!

I swear, people who withhold pictures (PWWP) should be tarred and feathered! Or tied up, slathered in honey, rolled through grain and put in the middle of a pasture of sugar-deprived broodies. ...put in a pasture of broodies AND their foals! Oh, heck, lets throw a mini and a donkey in there too, for good measure! :D
...lucky for you, I'm in a good mood and didn't suggest fire ants. :o ;)

Okay, got camera charged, was missing USB cable, which was just delivered from "borrower's house" about 10 mins ago....

Introducing Poco Smokey Delight (hubby picked the name), barn name Delight

Okay, it's a case of the missing white socks ( I swear they were there yesterday). Here she is the day after she was born as if to say "so my "socks" have disappeared - sue me"

Here she is doing the lunch limbo (or trying to - lol)
[img]http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i99/j…]

and playing a "Delightful Diva" (notice where she stomped her sweet little hoof - right in momma feed dish)

I was just surprised and can't quite get over her pale color, seeing as her momma is the darkest chestnut I have ever seen (looks more bayish than liver in person).

P.S. her tail isn't really set that low, it is just the way she's standing/posing at the time... :booty

Bannerminis Mon, 04/19/2010 - 17:41

She is gorgeous and such a sweet face :love . I always forget how gangly newborn horse foals are with their long legs. I am so used to looking at foals that are only about 21" tall

Keep us updated with the photos :flower

I have NO idea what shade she'll shed out to be, but Golde was much darker than that and is still very dark gold in color...I need to get pixs of that shaggy beast too (she has a long shaggy coat that shed in clumps) as she has grown sooo much (she's pushing 14.5 as a yearling so I am guessing she'll hit 15.2 or 3 like her momma).

Here are comparison shots of Goldie and Delight (only 2 days of age difference between pixs)
Delight (like you won't see the difference - :rofl )

Wow! Both of them are beautimous! :love ...and points-to-you for getting photos loaded w/in 10min of the USB arrival! I rescind my PWWP punishment. You are saved from the honey, grain and broodie torture! :P
