Exactly, which is my point. I call that silvertail, and I call what starts at the top of the tail coontail. Coontail is nearly always rabicano and I've never seen a silvertail with rabicano (I'm certain they exist, just haven't seen one). I may be one of very few that really separate the terms though so it may be a moot point.

So what sort of roans are these then? Just another sabino variety? They don't really change with the seasons and face is roaned same as the body. They are negative for the usual Grey/Sb1. After this discussion I wondered wether the chestnut might actually be a true roan, mabe I should see if they can test. I don't think the blue is though, it seems to be more in the flanks etc.. more what I associate with sabino-ish roan?

Tough... is what they are. I see several different things going on and I can't quite place what is doing what.

Some of the Airdrie Apache line DWs have a similar appearance.
