Re: Ugh
They're not out with mom, they're out with our male Heeler, and he isn't even daddy! He's more like...uncle lol. Mom got kicked by one of the horses and it broke 2 bones in her back leg so she's living indoors until the pin is removed. The puppies are about 13 weeks old and were weaned before she got the broke leg. The last time I saw Rebel or the pups was about 4 AM this morning when I woke up and hollered out the front door for them to hush, because they were all barking and carrying on cause of coyotes yapping up the hill...
ETA - two of the pups are half Aussie and the other two are half Catahoula.
Re: Ugh
Well, 2 of the puppies made it home...one of them is a little beat up, not bleeding or anything but missing some hair. Other than that they were very hungry and very happy to see me. I figure if they made it home on their own, the other 3 couldn't be too far away.
Re: Ugh
Well this morning was 1 week. The 2 puppies that did return have stayed and I've been giving them extra extra lovin's and treats so maybe they won't try to wander again...I really miss my red heeler, very badly. I haven't broke down about it yet (came close a couple times) cause I feel like if I do, I'm accepting the fact that he isn't coming home. Trying to keep the faith as long as possible, ya know. Saturday night I SWORE that I heard the pups barking out across the front 40 acres near the neighbor's chicken house so we jumped in the truck and drove over to the chicken houses and rolled down the windows and killed the engine....nothing. I even hollered and whistled. Never heard another bark :( I have pics but they're from back in January. I'll take new ones soon, the pups are getting sooo big.
Here's the pups and Rebel :sad

The longhaired female I was going to keep (she's still missing)

The shorthaired females (the one on the right with the brown eyebrows is still missing, so I'm thinking of keeping the one on the left)

The male (he came home...I might keep him too...) and both shorthaired females

Re: Ugh
I rode the mountain for 4 hours today, on one of the trails the dogs have gone down with me several times. Whistled and hollered, stopped several times just to listen. I never heard a peep, neither did Chilli (well we heard a turkey, that was all). She must have known something was up, and that there was a real purpose to our ride today, because it was cool and windy and she was a super good girl (not her normal style). There was not a single sign of a dog anywhere, just the occasional coyote poo. I've got another 4 hour trail I'm gonna try to hit tomorrow.
Re: Ugh
eck, sorry to hear that! I hope the come home and all is well, and in one piece. hopefully mama knows her way around enough to take a good care of the pups. how old are the babies, and what're they mixed with?
