Blue-eyed Arab colt?

RFR The Iceman https://www.addisequineauctions.com/EZ_DispLib_Item.aspx?ID=79" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; In RED are the things I am querying...
Extraordinary Purebred, triple registered, blue-eyed Overo Arabian. This amazing young colt is the RAREST COLORED Arabian Stallion in the United States. He is a true Blue-eyed, Overo marked purebred Arabian. The Iceman is tripled registered as a purebred Arabian (AHA), a Pinto horse (PtHA) # 128245 and as a Sabino (SAHR). Iceman is negative for lethal white...
This horse was posted at HorseCity and someone commented: "Sabino is a form of overo (along with splashed white and frame)." I thought Sabino was its' own thing and Overo/Frame/LW were one-and-the-same? What makes this amusing to me, is the person who made the above comment...appears to have a Paint in their avatar.
Heidi, you're reading emotions into my post that aren't there.
Well, good. I was afraid it looked like the beginnings of hurt feelings or something. Definitely a case where I'm *glad* to be wrong.
 I'm sorry.

Opinions are what makes a breed....there is no more to a breed than the opinion of the people that breed it and the people that buy it, at the end of the day.
Are the Arabs in Medina true Arabs??
If they have the papers to prove it, then, yeas, of course they are.
Would they sell in America, today and win in the ring??
Depends on how much money you have to throw at them, I guess.
Would I buy them??
Well, putting aside for a moment the fact that, even if I had it to spend I would not spend my money in any Middle Eastern country, if I were still breeding Arabs, yes, I might well do as the head is straight and plain, but not by any means ugly.
The colt pictured has what I describe as a "soft" head, it is neither one thing nor the other, it looks....oh, it is hard to describe, especially if you are not, nor ever have, judging horses by the same criteria.
BUT please do not put words into my mouth, the head is not everything that matters, but, if the head is not right I do not, with a stallion at least, look any further.
And that includes Minis....I have spent 30 years getting a herd of animals with good sound conformation and pretty heads, why on earth would I look at a stallion that did not have a head that at least equalled the stock I already have??
150 years ago the Blunts saw a horse in the desert, and started dreaming....today we have the results of their dreams.
Their daughter was ruthless in her approach to conformation, but not quite so ruthless in her approach to pedigrees, unfortunately, so quite possibly the Arabs in "Arabia" are far closer to the animals the Blunts brought home that the airy fairy, would not last two minutes in the desert animals we sometimes see in the show ring.
I am afraid that I am going to "over here" you again....fair warning!!
Over her we are as rigorous in the matter of pedigree on the racecourse as we are in the ring, and all papers must be in order.
There are races for pure, part and Angels, but the purebreds MUST be proven "purebreds" no laxness, no looking the other way.
Performance Arabs are different from show Arabs....they are sound for a start!!
Right , that is me done on this thread, it is going nowhere.

I think he's looks freaky, pretty head or not!! Being not a fan of either greys or blue eyes  I guess he's not going to be my style. How rare are blue eyes in arabs really? I figured they'd turn up now and then, and mostly they wouldn't be 'out there' as usually they would be less popular?

As far as arabs go I LOVE the old style crabbets, plainer heads (although I personally think they are prettier than those weird extreme heads in the show ring these days), more bone and a less flat topline. I'm not entirely sure I'd agree that an arab HAS to have an extreme head to be worth breeding from :)
Cheers

I'm a fan of both blue eyes and greys - not to mention arabs too - and he doesn't do it for me either.

Not only do I think he has a plain head, his body does nothing for me either.
That is a gelding quality colt.
Thisis one of the reasons that Arabs have such a bad name!!
Why can't I, just for once, like a breed that is not the subject of ridicule? :BH

I think that this just happens across the board. Not just in arabs....

Agreed Jenks.

I agree. It's sad as I'd really like to see a QUALITY Arabian stallion that would produce blue eyes.

rabbitsfizz Tue, 03/09/2010 - 09:44

Well, there are plenty of Splash Arabs around.
Me, I really do not like blue eyes, not at all, and the judges here are still quite prejudiced against them.

There was a blue eyed splash colored bay colt, bred by Marsha Parkinson, sired by Ganges and out of a Wojslaw mare. I couldn't believe it when I saw him and she never did give me permission to use his photo. She doesn't geld her colts, leaves it up to the buyer, and she sold him, but I never did find out where he went to.

Maigray Mon, 03/15/2010 - 18:57

I don't think he had any white at all, did he? Marsha Parkinson said, I think, the mare had only a star and the line was known for taking white OFF. Ganges has nothing but, what - a small snip and one white pastern? He must have got it from Monogramm, which would make sense, and would peg him for extreme suppression of splash. But if the incomplete dominant theory is correct, the mare must have had it as well.

Jenks Mon, 03/15/2010 - 19:48

Front left and right rear -all socks. Not a better eye or chest or legs....have I seen. But you have seen his get in flesh, yes?

Maigray Mon, 03/15/2010 - 22:08

I've been to the farm. It was lovely, I've never had a nicer afternoon. She and the trainer spent hours giving me the grand tour. Some of the stock she has sitting around would make you cry, stuff you would never see unless you went there. Goliat is there, and Equifor was presented and she pulled a black Ganges colt out of the stallion barn, as well as a bay stallion named Gauguin.
