Just for fun...2 year old APHA mare

This is Dani: I wish her head wasn't turned slightly away from the camera... She's 2 in this picture and I took it during the 2 weeks in the summer where she evened out a bit. One way I look at it I see a maturing horse, and the other way I look at it I still see a funny looking yearling :P I can't wait to see what she looks like when she's done growing, she's almost 3 and I've had her since she was 4 months old.

Ok I am no expert but here goes,

I like the general balance and outlook, (was surprised when you said 2yo in the post she looks very balanced for the ugly duckling age-group of the horse :D )

Nice neat head with cute ears, I like the neck set, looks quite long and well built for a 2yo, nice length of back and good shoulder slope. Nice rounded quarters hock and stifle set look good. Perhaps a touch upright in the pastern? and a little light of bone for me.

Thank you :)
I agree about her bone...her dam, sire, and older full brother all have a TON of bone. Her dam and brother took a very long time to mature and really develop. It seems she takes after them so I hope she'll end up with more bone.

Do you have another side photo of her? Something about the way she is standing in this one is really bothering me. I'm seeing something in her back end but I just can't tell because of the photo.

Hmm...I'll have to dig some up or go do a photo shoot. I have a ton of action shots but I know those aren't helpful. The problem is I don't have anyone who's good at squaring up a horse or taking photos.

What do you think is up? Or can you not pinpoint it because of the photo?

Do you have anything of her just standing around, grazing, etc.? I think part of why I'm having a hard time seeing is because she IS square. It's either the stifle, the hock or both... I just can't quite place it.

Until she's done growing, it's pointless. At 2? She has upper half growing still. Her cannons are pretty short, I thought...but she is not done growing and it's all relational.

What a nice girl, for only being 2 years old. She's very well balanced at this stage and a teeny bit downhill maybe, which will straighten up as she matures.
I like her head, neck, shoulder and rear quarter. As lillith said, she might be a little upright in the pastern but I'm tending to think that is because she has her hoof stubbed into the grass at an angle.
She might toe out a bit in front? Pretty markings. It will be nice to see this girl mature.
