Crating Dog Q?

Forums

So I have a friend who recently got a new dog, their other dog had died about 2 years ago. So they got this puppy and kept it crated almost 24/7 because it chewed stuff and would pee on the carpet, also it did not have any toys. So now she has this dog thats about a year old, chews everything, is STILL crated almost all day because he is too hyper and jumps on everyone and has all kinds of bad habits like biting and destroying things, as well as having to be forced into the crate. I went over to work on her computer one day a few months back and ended up spending about 4 hours working with this dog on behavior issues. I showed her how to work with the dog and make him obedient and told her she needs to get him toys and stop crating it and actually walk it enough so that he gets tired. Of course that fell through, now she is in college with me and her parents take care of the dog and I'm betting its still in that crate since it was her dad that did not want it running around. So what can I do to help this poor dog?

Suggest that they give it to a shelter where it can be assessed and given a little training before rehoming or to a home where someone has the time and knowledge of required training for the pup.
Tell her, perhaps she should wait until she finishes college and has time for a dog, before getting another (and hope she doesn't bother getting another *sigh).

Poor dog, what a sad life.

Her mom got the dog since their other had died from old age, but her dad is still the one that cares more about his carpet than the dogs mental health. It wasn't her (my friend) choice to get the dog, and I know she could take better care than her dad was letting her, and hopefully I will be getting an apartment soon and she might help me pay rent...and then hopefully we could have animals and I'll be able to take care of the dog IF her mom would let us take it; he was supposed to be for her little brother to play with when she went to college. Other problem is her parents don't think there is any problems with the dog. I guess I should have clarified that its her dog, but her mom got it, and her dad doesn't let her take care of it properly.

I agree, rehome the poor animal....they are obviously not willing to help it mentally so they shouldn't have it. IMO.
