Horse/Pony breeds with Frame

I liked the idea on the other thread to make a list of horse breeds with frame, I need lots of input! Also I am doing alot of this based on just pictures,so thats where I will need more conformation on if they truly carry frame. In Alphabetical order: American Indian Horse American Paint Horse American Quarter Horse American Saddlebred American Shetland American Warmblood Appaloosa Australian Draught Horse (unsure) Australian Stock Horse Azteca Campolina Criollo Curly Falabella Gelderland (unsure) Miniature Horse Missouri Fox Trotter Morgan Mustang National Show Horse Nokota Quarter pony Spanish Jennet Horse Spanish Mustang Spotted Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse Spotted Saddle horse Tennessee Walking Horse Thoroughbred Timor Pony

So what breeds need to be added/removed? Also a bit OT but I know someone said something about some people that saved a LWO foal.
....how on earth did they do that??????????...please share. :?
As far as I know they CANT. The nerves just aren't there.

What they COULD have had was a Dominant White, or a Max sabino, or some other combination that gave them a completely white foal.

CMhorses Thu, 12/10/2009 - 10:20

I swear someone said that some people dumped a whole heap of money into some invasive surgeries for a lwo foal and fixed the problem. I could just be crazy though.

I know, but....well, that is how Urban Myths start, isn't it??
It is more than possible it was a Max Sabino, coincidentally born with some sort of gastric problem.....

So what were the two Australian breeds with frame? Australian Drafts and Australian Stock Horses?? The Aussie Drafts don't have frame, not sure why they would? I personally don't know any ASH's with frame either but I guess it's possible from the QH's. Shetlands certainly don't have frame and Timor ponies having it doesn't sound right to me either. I always though it was an American mutation of some sort?

P.S. Hello everyone, been a fun(not) 12 months for me so haven't been around much but pretty settled now so will probably be popping in more often, sorry

Oh yeh I know those horses, didn't realise they were registered ASH.They are paints on breeding though, but yeh certainly means there are ASH frames.
Cheers

Is the list on the first page the most updated? I would like to include a list of known frame breeds in my thesis paper and this seems to be the most complete that I can find. Also, what about appaloosas? I know that they are particular about pinto patterns, but it there is a history of AQHA blood in the breed.

Maigray Thu, 01/28/2010 - 15:03

We should probably break it up into breeds proven to have frame - i.e. tested - and breeds believed to have frame and then breeds which are questionable. Can we add it to the site as well? Perhaps we can work on Tobiano lists, sabino lists, splash lists..

NZ Appaloosas Fri, 01/29/2010 - 23:46

Frame seems to have been kept out/weeded out of the appaloosa gene pool...most of what I've seen/heard about are splash/sabino type excess white.

I agree, as long as we use a disclaimer that anything is possible. LOL! The last thing we need is a negative mare to an Arab stallion have a lethal foal and they blame us. Obviously that is insanely unlikely, but you just never know.

rabbitsfizz Mon, 02/01/2010 - 09:03

Well, not so long ago there were definitely no Frame TBs, so "stranger things have happened at sea!!"
And I have seen a couple of very Frame looking Arabs. Pretty sure they are Sabino, but you just never do know.

CMhorses Sat, 08/21/2010 - 20:57

I will be updating and breaking this list down into the mentioned categories (known and possible). I think I will make/add a new list of tobiano too.
Also can this be a Sticky? or are we going to just add the list to the white pattern page?

I know that the Racking Horse registry will allow horses that rack that are not eligible at birth into their registry if they pass an inspection of gait...so say you have a SSH or TWH that racks, it's able to be reg. as a Racking Horse..so by default, Racking Horses can have Frame Overo in their breed.

Monsterpony Wed, 09/08/2010 - 16:53

AQHA needs to be in the known breeds. It is rare, but there is a case study published in the mid-2000s about a QH mare having a LWO foal.

Dogrose Wed, 09/08/2010 - 19:54

Shires and gypsies often have one dark leg like that, I thought it was a sabino thing. Its surely unlikely in Gelderlanders too?

Danni Wed, 09/08/2010 - 21:35

Australian Drafts would be no more likely to have frame than Clydesdales or Shires. I see nothing in those horses that looks frame anyway? I see a splash face and usual draft sabino or whatever you want to call it?

I'd say Aussie Draughts definitely aren't a frame possible breed.

Realistically isn't it mostly american breeds that could have frame, or breeds in other countries with influence by american breeds?
