Anyone from Essex ???

We are still busily looking for a a house and have found a large one with 2.5acres in Essex - do any of our members come from Essex and can give me some insider advice on the area??? This one is south of Basildon on the outskirts - and I know that Essex gets a bad press sometimes so would like the truth from preferaby an Essex resident. Would appreciate it if you could. ;)

Oh and here's a nice link (for peace of mind) that can give you basic info on crime in that area.

Me, I'm from Essex, Westcliff, just down the road from Southend!
I live ten miles south of Luton at the moment and I can tell you it is very similar, when it comes to reputation!!
I would not say Essex was a bad place to live, and Basildon is OK, too.
There is a lot of urban development going on, so I would look closely at the local councils plans for the area you are looking at.

Thanks Fizz will do - really hoping this is the one for a few years - have been looking at stables for it - so much fun - just hope he accepts our offer....and yes will look into development plans. ;)

I'm in Essex at the moment, in Chelmsford, I went to college in Writtle and I love it. Yes there are some 'essex' lads and lasses about per the usual jokes but no more than anywhere else I have lived, it is a pretty county outside of the cities and convinient for London and most of the rest of the country compared to say.....Cornwall. ;)

Keep us posted.

And, no matter what you read or hear, when it comes to crime and criminals, there is no rhyme or reason. We had a quadruple homicide in town here on Saturday, and we are know the world over as "Mayberry"...the idealic quintessential small Southern town: The perfect paradise to raise a family. It was just a love gone wrong thing that went very wrong (woman scorned's son was the killer). Of course, thankfully, in true Andy & Barney fashion, the perpetrator was capurted within 24 hrs.

Well that's even closer for you to come to ride then Lilly !!! ;)

CK yes I grew up in a solubrious town in Kent called Sevenoaks (my Dad still lives there), it's quite and as I've already said well-to-do ! A Nurse was murdered by her husband 3 doors away at the nursing home when I was a kid, so know what you mean. We are going back to view again on Saturday so will let you know, lets hope this one see's sense and takes our lower offer ! :D
